Opinion: How cops can de-escalate rather than fire their guns

With the conviction of Derek Chauvin, our country breathed a sigh of relief.

But a recent rash of police shootings of Black and Brown people across the country has only underscored the urgency of deeper reforms to law enforcement across the country.

My op-ed in CNN Opinion:

De-escalation is a proven method of reducing violent encounters between police and citizens, writes Eric Adams. The immediate focus must be on stemming further loss of life, and in the long-term, we must do more to address the deep disparities still baked into policing.

NYC pols push de Blasio to paint 30 miles of bus lanes by year’s end

An equitable recovery from #COVID19 depends on a robust and reliable public transit system. We have the opportunity this year to build a better bus network that centers equity and prioritizes corridors in areas with limited access to other transit options. I stand with Ydanis Rodriguez's Team Riders Alliance, Tri-State Transportation Campaign, my colleagues, and advocates to urge the City to fulfill its promises to speed up buses, so riders can get around easier and efficiently.

New York City installed more miles of bus lanes in a single year last year than ever before — and a group of elected officials wants Mayor Bill de Blasio to go even further in 2021. City Coun…
