. On September 5, 1968, a visionary proposal for a consolidated federal law enforcement training center set the stage for a new era in public safety. Fifty-six years ago, a U.S. government task force recognized the need for unified training and identified 20 agencies across seven departments that could benefit from a single location.
On July 1, 1970, the Consolidated Federal Law Enforcement Training Center opened its doors in Washington, D.C. Just five years later, it moved to Glynco, Georgia, and became the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center ( ).
In 2016, Congress officially updated “Center” to “Centers,” reflecting FLETC’s four domestic training sites, international reach, and partnerships with 130 agencies today! FLETC continues to evolve, providing world-class training and shaping the future of law enforcement.
