When talking with friends and family, please be clear: Issue 7 does not change the services provided by Bryan Municipal Utilities (BMU). The Director of Utilities and all BMU positions remain in place.
Issue 7 is only about the government structure - specifically the Bryan Board of Public Affairs (BPA).
This year alone, the community lost over 60 years of experience on the BPA. There are now three new members - two of whom were appointed due to a lack of candidates running for the elected positions.
Bryan is also the only city left in the AMP community that has not updated its charter to eliminate an elected BPA.
Make sure the facts are what people are hearing.

Most communities don’t issue press releases when their own city utility departments provide services to the city - because it’s simply part of doing the job.

In Bryan, BMU employees are city employees, just like other departments that operate under the Mayor/Council structure. Yet our current system separates responsibilities across multiple governing bodies, which can create unnecessary overlap, slower decisions, and less clear accountability.

Other Ohio communities like Hamilton and Bowling Green generate power, manage peak demand, and deliver reliable service all without a separate elected utility board.

Issue 7 is about modernizing Bryan’s structure:
• Streamlining decision-making
• Reducing duplication
• Improving accountability
• Keeping the same trusted employees and services residents rely on

This isn’t about changing what works - it’s about making it work better.

Vote YES on Issue 7 on May 5th.
