Liberty pole in place (needs a tweak), nice breeze, nice day (72°). My old liberty pole was a tree, it fell apart so I went with plan B, a PT 4x4 I already had. I want a real Bedford Flag between the flags.

"Liberty poles were often erected in town squares in the years before and during the American Revolution (e.g. Concord, Massachusetts; Newport, Rhode Island; Caughnawaga, New York; Savannah, Georgia and Englewood, New Jersey[11]). Some colonists erected liberty poles on their own private land[citation needed][original research?] (such as in Bedford, Massachusetts since 1964 and Woburn, Massachusetts—the pole raising there is reenacted annually[citation needed])." (for those who dont know, myself and many of my friends have been to many recappings in Bedford, but I call mine a unity pole)

Hello Friends...I dont post much on my liberty pole page, but I should. Today I was thinking about our first Amendment and freedom of the press and why it was so important. The fact is back in those days while the forefathers were framing the constitution it was still fresh in their minds how England tried to silence those who spoke out. (Thomas Payne of course comes right to mind). But that was almost 250 years ago and things have changed, the oppressed colonists needed the press to help them, the press was a very powerful tool for the public. Now as we see the press seems to have very little respect for "common sense" (sorry couldnt resist the pun). 250 years later the media has become the tool of the govt and big business, exactly the opposite of what imo was the concepts of the forefathers. (even social media) The media, the written word, was once a tool of salvation for the oppressed and now is a tool of domination for the oppressors stacking the odds against us all.
