Tonight at 6PM three School Board Members will be stepping down and the three new school board members will be confirmed. This is a great day to come to the Board meeting, support your elected volunteer Board Members, and stay to see what a Board Meeting is like.

It is going to be a long Board Meeting, but I would recommend staying through community comment to get an idea what it is like.

Here is an alternative to a Turning Point USA youth chapter that is a cross-partisan movement to bridge the partisan divide. We have talked often on the School Board about teaching civil discussion on political issues and critical thinking skills when reading or hearing things in the news, social media, or from friends/family/neighbors.

Here is an organization that promotes a culture of civil discourse.

The discussion at tonight’s Patriots Meeting with Turning Point USA is about opening a youth chapter here in BV or Chaffee County. Turning Point’s chapters focus on high school and college students. There is not a college in Buena Vista, so they assumption is this would be discussion about a high school youth chapter here in Buena Vista.

Consider looking at the Turning Point USA’s website before attending. Take national partisan politics out and is this something that would be beneficial to our small town community and to our students? My personal belief is this is the exact opposite from Bridging any trust gaps, teaching students about non-harassment or anti-bullying.

Then attend the meeting if you can be civil and peaceful and listen to what is being proposed. I am willing to listen.

The Chaffee County Patriots will gather for their monthly meeting tonight at St. Rose of Lima Church in Buena Vista, with the program set to begin at 6:30 p.m

I have a few more weeks of using this page. Our High School Principal spoke about the trout project happening this year at the last Principal’s reports to the Board. It is wonderful to see our BVSD students getting involved in our community and learning about the ecosystems we live among. Great job Clay for learning more about what you are passionate about and bringing it into your studies at school!

Every river needs a champion. Clay is a champion for the Upper Arkansas River. As a Buena Vista middle schooler, he learned about stream ecology and fly fishing at the Collegiate Peaks Chapter’s Stream Explorers summer camp. This past summer, Clay attended the Colorado TU Conservation and Fly Fishing Camp thanks to a Collegiate Peaks Chapter scholarship, where he won the Conservation Awareness award. Now a freshman at Buena Vista High School, Clay is a student teacher taking care of their new Trout in the Classroom tank, which is sponsored by Collegiate Peaks Chapter. Clay and his friends are thinking up ways to encourage water conservation and environmental protection in their community.

Well, the most recent unofficial results show Jeremiah Johnson, Casey Martin, and Laura Hansen all ahead on their races. I have been extremely impressed with the study each has done on board and executive policies and the knowledge they have on schools and education. You are all going to do amazing. Jessica, Lynn, and I can be comfortable that we are leaving the District Board in great hands with you as the new Board Members.

I am proud of our BV Community for researching the candidates and getting out and doing their civic duty and voting in these important local elections. You are showing our community’s children the importance of voting.

Thank you to Antonio and Jake for being willing to put their names in the ring and running for a school board seat. I hope Antonio continues to be involved through DAC or BV Peaks, he could be a great additional resource to the District.

And 4A and 4B are close but both currently appear to be passing! Thank you for supporting our District and our Teachers!

It’s officially Election Day! If you turned in your ballot early, thank you. If life has been too busy, today is the day to be civically engaged. It’s too late to mail in your ballot, but you can take it to a polling place in Chaffee County and drop it off. Local elections like electing your local school board directors and voting on the District bond and mill issues, or the ballot issue brought by the public library..,this is what affects our community directly.

Thank you for voting and being a part in directing the community forward.
