It is not enough to have a bold plan and a collective vision—we need transparency, accountability and community power to transform them into reality. The existing pathways for public participation weren’t working, so we dug deep into our values and our vision and created a new one.

We know that when we fund our work from the ground up, we not only ensure that we maintain power over the decisions we make and the actions we take, but that if we raise this money through authentic and honest face-to-face conversations, we are also building the community and the collective power necessary to demand justice and reimagine a world that works for all of us.

Current and former workers have united in the struggle for a just workplace. It is clear to us that environmental justice and climate justice cannot be divorced from racial and economic justice. Tesla workers are leading with real, comprehensive solutions, to create an economy and a world that enables all of us to live in our dignity.

Our team changed the story about the future of the Tonawanda Coke site by putting our people’s stories in the center, not company profits. By demanding that the polluter, not taxpayers, pay for the cleanup of the site, we were able to get three out of the four sites put into the state Superfund cleanup program.

The residents of the Delevan-Grider neighborhood have been raising concerns about this site for over 20 years,” noted Erie County Legislature Chair April Baskin. “They must have a seat at the table during the cleanup process, since they will live with the end results. We did it!

The Erie County Legislature just voted unanimously in support of our two powerful resolutions for Tonawanda Coke and American Axle! Erie County has shown that they stand firm with our people's right to dignity, safety and health by sharing their support for our Community Advisory Group and our comments calling on the DEC to add additional testing on these sites.

Each and every Erie County Legislator signed on as a co-sponsor to our resolution for American Axle which shows that the the lives and dignity of the hardworking, tenacious and unstoppable residents of the Delavan-Grider community is paramount here in Western New York.

A Community Advisory Group on both the Tonawanda Coke and American Axle sites will ensure that we can all formally collaborate on the future of our vibrant region.

07/22/2020

Urgent call to action!

We are so close to having our two powerful resolutions pass in the Erie County Legislature tomorrow at 2pm, but we need your help! These resloutions show that the Erie County Legislature supports Clean Air members' calls for a Community Advisory Group to be established at Tonawanda Coke and American Axle. This would give our people a real seat at the table moving forward on cleaning up these toxic sites in our neighborhoods!

Make a call today to share your support with your legislator and thank those who have shown the courage to stand up for our people's health, dignity and safety over corporate profit and shortcuts on cleanup.

From Weirton West Virginia. Quite a large cloud of particulates and probably carcinogenic material as the steel production basic oxygen plant (BOP) steals its final breath from our atmosphere
Tonawanda Coke today 7PM taken from the Grand Island bridge. Offensive smell very noticeable as I rode the bike trial back to Buffalo. Smelled like the 1960s when I was a kid.

Has anyone looked into the air quality due to all the construction in parts of Buffalo.? I have live at Artspace on Main St. for 10 years surrounded with nonstop demolition and construction and have asthma now. Both activities produce different particulates and I was wondering if any monitoring has been done.
