Peace activists protest at Niagara Falls airbase over Afghanistan drone attacks

Thanks Mike Desmond of WNED WBFO Studios for coming out to our memorial!! Ten of the Ahmadi family, including 7 children (of which 3 were toddlers) were assassinated by US killer drones. The “over the horizon” hellfire missiles were “precise” yet completely mistaken- they mistook the water the dad - an aid-worker - was bringing home, for bombs. Tragic… and typical.. Drone operators suffer more PTSD and Moral Injury than “boots on the ground.” #bankillerdrones

Peace activists were again outside the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station Thursday, protesting what they say is an airbase command center for drones carrying out attacks around the world.

Kathy Kelly reminded me that two years ago exactly today a drone strike in Afghanistan killed 30 workers harvesting Pine Nuts. So I researched this and wrote the following story. I am looking for someone with a good broadcast voice to narrate it today so that I can produce and release a video. Here is the narration: High in the mountains of Afghanistan, fall is the time to pick pine nuts. But collecting pinecones and plucking pine nuts is not easy. It is labor-intensive. On September 19, 2019, it was the second day of work. 200 people camped in Wazir Tangi in the Nangarhar province. It is a dense pine tree forest. They worked all day long. Tired, they slept amid their pine nuts and pinecones. They lit bonfires as it was getting chilly. But these mountains are dangerous places. They attract American drones. So they informed the governor about their plans days in advance. Governor even showed the letter to Reuter's news agency. But some people sitting far away in the USA. in Nevada or perhaps in Wisconsin. Surrounded by their monitors and keyboards in an airconditioned room decided to kill them. No one knows who the killers are. And no one knows why they kill. They just pushed a button. Just like in a video game. And the killer drone flying far above the pine trees bombed the workers. 30 Afghan civilians died that night, young and old. 40 others were injured. More perhaps died later. Here are stories of their loved ones. She is a mother who lost her children: "These poor people went to work with tattered clothes. They did not go for ISIS. They had no weapons. They killed these kids while they slept. Why do they kill our children? We gathered pieces of flesh to bury them. We want peace." He is Malik Khiali, her son was killed in the drone strike. "We do not want anything from America. We have just one demand. Leave Afghanistan. They are liars. They say they can see everything from their drones, even a needle. Why then they didn’t recognize workers were not fighters? They fly around all day and night. Didn’t they see they had no guns? Didn’t they see them harvesting pine nuts? We know they are playing games with us." This is Habiburahman. Two of his brothers and five cousins were killed by the killer drone that night: "Twelve of our family members went there for work. They spent the first day there harvesting pine nuts. But on the second night, the ruthless Americans bombarded them brutally. They had no connection with fighters. THey went there to work because we are poor. These graves behind me. Two of them are my brothers and five are my cousins." She is Kaynat, with a photo of her dad. "My dad went harvesting pine nuts. But the airplane bombarded and killed him. My little brother is crying for him all the time." US air force documents revealed that 90% of all drone victims are civilians. Daniel Hale leaked this truth about drones. In the meantime, killer Drones continue to kill. Sometimes they are in the news. But never in a headline. They are the other. Dispensable. In faraway lands.

I just wanted to share something with you. I'm sixty five years old and just found out something that hit me to the core. One of my favorite sons, my brother who is sixty nine and a teacher was shocked when I told him what it was about. Well I tell you. I've been singing and dancing to the song Electric Avenue for decades, blissfully unaware it was about apartheid. What rock was I living under. I found out a few days ago and been having the song swimming in my head feeling like a complete uncaring idiot and crying to a joy that used to bring me so much joy. Will I ever feel the same way again. It's hard for me to write this. Embarrassing to the max, but I need to admit it. The end of apartheid was wonderful but there's just so much Injustice still in this world and there's still so much inequality. Sure there are laws on the books, but that doesn't change what's in people's heads. So much isn't taught in the school. So much that doesn't effect a certain tribe so to speak isn't even included in their thought process. Until everything and everyone cares about everyone everywhere, I'm afraid we still have so much farther to go.
Good morning, can you please let me know if tonight's seminar with Cornell West via Zoom is going to be recorded for those who cannot watch it live? Thank you.
