Climate and Community Investment Act proposed in Albany

The Climate and Community Investment Act would add an estimated 55 cent-per-gallon tax on New Yorkers filling their cars with gas. This proposed legislation does not just increase the prices at the pump, it will also increase the cost of home heating energy by 25%. New Yorkers already pay enough to fill their cars and heat their homes, this is only going to add to the already overly burdensome taxes and fees we have in our State. We should be helping our hard-working taxpayers and businesses, not increase their already high costs of living and doing business in New York State.

Lawmakers react to what one group says would be a 55-cent per gallon tax increase on gasoline.

Senator Rath Introduces Legislation to Aid Schools in Getting Children Back in the Classroom

Getting our children safely back into schools is critical. While virtual learning was necessary early in the pandemic, schools have proven that they can safely bring children back. Now that teachers have been prioritized for vaccination, allowing the three feet of social distancing would be another tool in helping get children back in the classroom. It has been seen in other areas of the United States that bringing back students does not contribute to significant community spread. I have also met with the New York State American Academy of Pediatrics, who shared their support of this measure. I am hopeful that this bill will help get our children back into the classroom and allow schools to focus on educating our children.

Albany, NY – Senator Rath has introduced legislation, S.5718, that would permit school districts to open to students for in-person instruction if the school can always maintain at least 3 feet between students. “Getting our children safely back into schools is critical. As I have said previously, these allegations that have surfaced surrounding the Governor are extremely alarming. The Governor and his Administration are also involved in the horrific nursing home cover-up. I am thankful to the FBI and DOJ for hearing our calls to carry out an investigation. If the Governor continues to refuse to justifiably step down, impeachment is necessary. The Governor must answer for his actions.

The bill that was passed yesterday in the Senate and Assembly to “repeal the Governor’s powers” fell far short of doing that. In reality, what was passed was legislation that would create more centralized power between the Governor and the Senate and Assembly Majority Leaders. 7 million New Yorkers are represented by Minority conference members and deserve to have their voice heard too. While I understand that now is not the time to let our guard down, we need the legislature to have their power restored so we can work to help our businesses rebuild and rehire.

Passing this is just stupid and irresponsible. At a time when so many mass shootings are occurring; do we really need to encourage more young people to use weapons for "entertainment"? Think about the 13 year old in Chicago that was killed by police because he held a gun! Offer our youth alternate ways to expand their mindset like helping wildlife and respecting all life instead of ending it!
Those in Albany that believe in big government are running this state and have wasted and misused our tax dollars for decades, not to mention the power of the teachers unions and the unions in general. There is no hope for this state to be turned around until those in Albany are not reelected. The residents of this state need jobs not government handouts that create government dependency. The stimulus money only gives a short burst of a economic boost, when the money is spent the boost is gone. Jobs are the answer.
A recent email from the Senator talked about New York State's high tax rates. I've always heard this, but recently experienced the difference when my daughter was looking at buying a house in Seattle, WA. The house was listed at $525,000 and had a yearly property tax of around $1,300, compared with my valuation of about $180,000 and taxes of $4,000. She said whenever the politicians try to raise taxes there, the citizens file petitions to vote on the increases and most of the time vote them down. What a difference from New York.
I want to vote for Ed Rath, and will if He is pro life. I can't seem to find a way to find out.
