If you're using natural gas to heat your home this winter, be careful! Make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector and replace the batteries regularly.

❗ If there is a leak, get out immediately & call 911.

Snow is spreading into the west this morning. We will have an updated briefing on the expected snow and wind online around 6 am.

But in the meantime, we have some other weather news to share. We broke a record at the Riverton airport. At around 2 am this morning, the mercury climbed to 1 degree above zero. That was the first time we rose above 0 since Friday morning when the Arctic front was moving through. That makes 112 consecutive hours of temperatures below zero. This breaks the old record of 98 we set last year during the late January outbreak.

Note: Records at the airport go back to 1996. There were longer stretches in downtown Riverton, but the lower elevation allows for cold air to pool, compared to the airport which is at a higher elevation.

Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan Draft for

Campbell, Crook, Johnson, Sheridan and Weston Counties

Available for Public Review and Comment

Would you like to learn more about what Campbell, Crook, Johnson, Sheridan and Weston counties are doing to minimize the impacts of floods, wildfires, winter storms, hazardous materials incidents, and other hazards? A draft of the Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan is being made available for public review and comment. The plan assesses the risks posed by hazards, identifies ways to reduce those risks, and allows each participating county and municipality to be eligible for mitigation grant funding from FEMA. County planning teams, including representatives from all municipalities, developed the plan over the past 12 months with assistance from a consultant.

The plan identifies hazard mitigation goals and mitigation projects for the counties, with the intent of reducing losses from hazard events before they occur again. A public survey was used during the planning process to solicit input on the hazards and ideas for mitigation projects. The counties in the Region are now soliciting public comment on the plan before it is finalized and submitted for FEMA review and approval. The final plan will be adopted by each participating county and municipality before it becomes official. More information can be obtained from your local county emergency management office.

The comment period will be December 15-31, 2023.

The draft plan can be accessed at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KWy4VSHs6TIGdC5K16f729vbRT8iqhkF/view?usp=drive_link and the annexes can be accessed at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Y3Gxjahc19NqGyOJ4mQT3k3d8ywdG6ps/view?usp=drive_link
