Since 2009 PUSH Buffalo has been working diligently in establishing and promoting green infrastructure throughout the City of Buffalo. Following the success of our neighborhood-scale projects on Buffalo’s West Side Green Development Zone, PUSH’s community development arm the Buffalo Neighborhood Stabilization Company started PUSH Blue in 2013 - creating a team of talented people to address the sus

tainable landscaping needs in and around Buffalo. Today, PUSH Blue continues to bring education, expertise, experience, and a thorough understanding of sustainable design and implementation to every project that we undertake. We focus our work on projects that are responsible to our communities, our clients, our workers, and our environment. PUSH Blue has been a leader around addressing Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) and promoting ecological landscape practices. PUSH Blue has been responsible for a range of managed landscape projects that have included the construction of rain gardens, green roofs, permeable parking pads, bioswales, environmental stormwater solutions on vacant lots, and large-scale community gardens. PUSH Blue also recently completed bio-retention installations on 221 sites (19 acres) post-demolition sites throughout the City of Buffalo in partnership with the Buffalo Sewer Authority. PUSH Buffalo in all of its work has been engaged in resiliency planning and engagement including a wide array of efforts around education, outreach, and planning to communities through the City of Buffalo. Within the green infrastructure and eco-landscaping space that has included development of outreach materials, a rain barrel distribution program, and training programs for green infrastructure training and maintenance. PUSH Buffalo currently employs an eco-landscaping team that has extensive training and experience in implementing sustainable landscape systems and stormwater management projects. Every member of our PUSH Blue crew both receives and can provide green training and education to support holistic consideration and implementation of each of our projects. Such efforts are part of PUSH’s overall community jobs pipeline strategy of engaging low-income workers of color and disconnected workers in the effort to establish an equitable community-controlled green economy. Contact us to see how the work that we do can benefit your home, business, or other projects!

Hello! We’re taking a look back into some of what PUSH Blue and Mayor Summer Youth accomplished this season! Here are pics of us planting native shrubs perennials (grown right in our very own hoop house on Rhode Island St. near “5 points intersection”).
PUSH Blue and MSY explored topics like green infrastructure, the benefits of native plants, how to properly plant and tend to natives plants, what is a “weed”, and we explored one of two community gardens that PUSH Blue maintains to learn about rainwater harvesting, and taste-tested some local seasonal, and culturally significant veggies. More pics to come!…

Come join us to learn the basics of heat pumps, and ask your questions!

In 2019 New York passed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), which includes a timeline to reduce and eliminate our use of fossil fuels. Heat pumps are an energy efficient, all electric system that can provide heating and cooling.

If you currently heat with electricity, propane or oil, heat pumps can save you money! Come learn about these systems if you are interested in installing them, or curious what options are out there to get your household off of fossil fuels.

There will be plenty of time for questions!

What a day! Thank you to this beloved community for showing up on Friday for PUSH Buffalo's 2nd Annual Solidarity Day! Though the day started out windy and rainy, by the time we got to Mass Ave. Park, the sun came out, the wind died down, and we had ourselves a party! From African drumming and dance, to family arts and crafts, to delicious soul food, and fresh garden produce, the PUSH community showed up and showed out. We can't wait for more safe gatherings in the coming months – it was powerful to see you all, and share this space together! Photos by Unai Reglero
