I hate that this is how Western New York is making national headlines.

Mark Poloncarz canceled this event because he claims these groups do not reflect our community’s values.

He does not speak for Western New York.

We value hard work, local businesses, jobs, and opportunity. We welcome visitors who come here, spend money, and support our economy.

I hope the national attention helps find a way to keep this event in Western New York.

We should be making headlines for creating opportunity, not turning it away.

MARK POLONCARZ CANCELED A JOB FAIR.

Not a political rally. Not a protest. Not a campaign event.

A JOB FAIR.

The federal government was coming to Buffalo for a two-day career expo where Western New Yorkers could meet employers, learn about careers, and potentially find a good-paying job.

Mark Poloncarz decided that opportunity shouldn’t happen because he doesn’t like one of the agencies participating.

A publicly owned convention center is now being used to decide which employers are politically acceptable.

If Mark disagrees with federal immigration policy, he’s free to say so. If people want to protest, they’re free to do that peacefully.

But we don’t cancel lawful events because someone might protest them. We provide security and protect everyone’s rights.

Instead, Mark Poloncarz chose to shut the doors.

People looking for work shouldn’t lose an opportunity because a politician doesn’t like the employer.

A job fair should be about jobs.

Western New Yorkers deserved better.

Here’s my full statement on why I strongly disagree with this decision:

I met with the East Aurora Police Department to see the investments made possible through county funding I secured for the department.

The first investment was new tactical gear for SWAT training. This equipment allows EAPD officers to receive specialized training, work more effectively with neighboring departments during mutual aid responses, and support other communities when additional resources are needed.

The department’s dispatch equipment upgrades are still to come, and I’m looking forward to seeing the improvements once everything is in place.

The impact of this funding reaches far beyond East Aurora. Many people may not realize that East Aurora’s dispatch center serves a much larger role than just dispatching for the town and village. The department also dispatches for 11 fire companies across six different towns, including Elma, Holland, Marilla, Wales and Sardinia. Upgrading this aging equipment will help ensure East Aurora has the tools needed to continue serving as a strong emergency response hub for the communities that rely on it.

I’m proud to have secured funding that strengthens the East Aurora Police Department and the critical emergency response infrastructure it provides. I look forward to seeing these improvements come together.

It was great to visit the Friends of Knox Farm State Park and see the remarkable work happening there. The stable building has received major upgrades, including a new concrete pad for outdoor events, a new clock, and revived stables with new paint and flooring projects underway.

Knox Farm has seen a tremendous increase in visitors and event rentals over the past few years, thanks in large part to the thousands of hours volunteers have dedicated to improving the park.

Thank you to Kathleen York, Dave Schifferle, and Jody Valdes for taking the time to show me the incredible improvements, and to all of the dedicated volunteers whose hard work continues to make Knox Farm such a special place.

My deepest condolences to Tyler’s family, friends, and all of his brothers and sisters in the emergency services community. Tyler’s dedication to serving others through Seneca Hose Fire Company, Hamburg EMS, the Erie County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Hazardous Materials Response Team, and Reserve Fire Company speaks to the kind of person he was — compassionate and committed to his community.

Keeping everyone who knew and loved Tyler in my thoughts and prayers during this heartbreaking time.

It is with great sadness that we notify you of the loss of one of our members, Tyler Schenck, who passed away in an accident last evening.

Tyler was not only a valued and respected member of our organization, but also a member of the Erie County Department of Health, EMS Division; the Erie County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Services, Hazardous Materials Response Team; and Hamburg EMS, as well as a former member of Reserve Fire Company.

At approximately 2200 hours on August 22, 2026, emergency personnel responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident in the Town of Elma. Members of the Blossom Vol. Fire Company, Spring Brook Fire District #1, Erie County EMS, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded and worked together to manage the incident.

Tyler was described by those who knew and worked alongside him as lovable, lighthearted, and a passionate EMS provider who genuinely cared about everyone he met. During his time serving in the fire and EMS communities, Tyler made a meaningful impact on his coworkers, fellow first responders, and the people he served. His loss will be deeply felt throughout our public safety, fire, and EMS communities. Our deepest condolences go out to the Schenck family, Tyler’s friends, and his fellow members during this incredibly difficult time.

It was great visiting the Boys & Girls Club of Elma, Marilla and Wales for their end-of-summer carnival! Tracey and the dedicated club staff continue to do amazing work for our community’s youth throughout the year. It was great to see so many kids making the most of the final days of summer recess.

Last year, I was able to help secure a portion of funding for a new lighted crosswalk between the club and the Iroquois Schools campus, which has significantly reduced the number of close-call incidents between motorists and club members trying to cross. Investing in the safety of our community will always be a top priority. I was glad to hear that the new crosswalk has been working well.

Thank you to the entire club team for all they do to provide local kids with a fun and welcoming place to enjoy outside of school. I look forward to seeing the great work continue!

I spoke with WBEN the radiological testing now taking place across Erie County.

The DEC and EPA are evaluating properties in Aurora, Boston, Brant, Concord, Eden, Evans, Hamburg, Marilla and Orchard Park after aerial surveys identified areas with radiological measurements that warrant a closer, ground level look.

This does not mean these properties have radioactive contamination. It means additional testing is needed to determine whether anything is actually present.

The agencies have also made clear that they will not enter private property without the property owner’s permission. If screening is permitted, residents will be kept informed throughout the process.

The material being investigated may be connected to historical industrial waste that was used decades ago as fill beneath roads, driveways, parking lots and homes.

There is no reason for residents to panic. This is an assessment process intended to identify and address potential concerns, and I will continue to follow this closely and keep residents informed as more information becomes available.

I had the opportunity to visit the West Seneca Police Department today and meet with Chief Cosgrove to see some of the department’s latest improvements.

I was proud to help secure funding to upgrade the classroom at their new training facility with televisions and audio equipment, giving our officers a better space to train and prepare for the important work they do every day.

Investing in public safety will always be a priority. Thank you to Chief Cosgrove for taking the time to meet with me, and most importantly, to all of the officers of the West Seneca Police Department for their continued commitment to keeping our community safe.
