Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The Buffalo Public Schools is excited about the start of our schools reopening. We had a very successful first week and need your continued support to ensure the safety and well-being of all as we move forward.

Out of an abundance of caution and in alignment with the New York State and Erie County Department of Health Organizations, the district's Medical Advisory Team and in alignment with the District's Code of Conduct Addendum passed by the Board of Education, the district requires that if your child is ill with any of the following symptoms, which are consistent with the COVID-19 illness, that you keep your children home. Symptoms include:

• Fever of 100 degrees or higher
• Chills
• Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing
• New loss of taste or smell
• Headache
• Fatigue (tiredness)
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Sore throat
• Muscle aches
• Congestion or runny nose

Thank you for working with us to keep your children and our school community healthy and safe.

If you have any questions, please contact your school's nurse.

Dear Parents and Guardians:
As we begin to phase in in-person learning on February 1st, 2021, those of you who wish to keep your child(ren) home for 100% remote learning must fill out on opt-out form stating your preference. We ask that you please do so by January 8th.
If you do not fill in and submit this form, we will assume your child will be participating in in-person learning. For planning purposes, as each grade level is phased-in, it is imperative that we are aware of your child’s status of remote or in-person learning.
The form can be found at buffaloschools.org and all BPS food distribution sites. It is also attached to emails that have gone to your email address on record, which can be printed out and returned to your child’s homeschool, or dropped off at any food distribution site.
For families who may have moved recently, we ask that you also update your contact information through a link that can be found on the front page of our website at buffaloschools.org. Two-way communication is essential as we initiate phase-in, and we want to keep you informed as updates occur.
Thank you!

Who should a parent reach out to when they’ve sent a teacher a few emails requesting clarification on a discrepancy on their child’s overall grade in a subject on their progress report, when the teacher does not respond?

Schools can participate in a new kind of parenting education...one that reaches everyone, everywhere, all the time. Advancing Parenting, a Camarillo CA nonprofit organization, produces parenting tips bumper stickers that can be put in holders and placed on tables and counters in school offices so parents can choose one or more for their cars. Bumper stickers are a unique and powerful way to share parenting wisdom. Just one will be read thousands of times. There are fifty-one different stickers in a set and each communicates a parenting behavior or practice generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children. The tips focus on education, mental health, and character. Visit www.advancingparenting.org for ordering information. Use a computer...our site is not optimized for phones.
My name is Rachel and I just purchased my home here in the City. I have two (2) children who attend BPS. In March of this year we started experiencing a lot of discrimination, aggravated harassment, property damage, 2 attempted murders (including my children’s lives), and public defamation of character by a woman. These acts have continued up until 08/08/2020 and while this woman is set to be arraigned on two (2) separate occasions, I am left to deal with all the backlash. I found out this woman ran for the BPS School Board in 2019 (luckily, she lost). However, she has made many friends with BPS teachers and Board Members. Due to the libelous statements made by this woman all over Facebook, friends of hers whom work for BPS have condemned my name and participated in such slander. I was never convicted of a crime and the other woman is the one who is being arraigned over the incident(s). BPS teachers such as Eve Shippens, Janate Ingram, Deb Jordan, Capucine Philson, as well as possible Board Members she is friends with have completely disgraced my image online by sharing false statements convicting me of being a racist (my children are bi-racial) and accusing me of committing a felony all over Facebook. I am currently attempting to resolve this matter in Supreme Court. However, due to the damage done by BPS teachers, I fear for my children to attend BPS. I fear that my children will be bullied, their grades tampered with, harassed over thinking their mother is a racist and a felon, etc. I no longer feel safe sending my children to a public school as BPS teachers have attacked my name and reputation with lies. I have screenshots as proof. I am writing you today as a concerned mother of my children’s education. My children should not be subjected to harassment or points of view due to libelous statements being made against me by BPS teachers. While these teachers all work for different schools within the City limits, they are all outraged by the lies this woman spread about me. They have already went as far as slandering my good name online ruining my business and reputation. Teachers talk with other teachers outside of their district. I fear my children will take on the backlash as well. My children should be treated equally as every other child and be able to attend school without retaliation or unjustified discipline and harassment. Unfortunately, due to the hatred these teachers display towards me, I do not feel as if my children will be treated equally. I feel as if I am at a standstill, as stated, I just purchased my home and my children must attend a Buffalo School. I have no guarantee that my children will not be subjected to these teacher’s retaliation efforts. I no longer feel safe sending my children to a City School and unfortunately there aren’t many other options available. While I have reached out to private and charter schools, as a parent of children who belong to Buffalo City Schools, I should not have to worry whether or not my children will be bullied by lies. These teachers have already condemned me although I have no conviction nor arrest.
