We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from so many members of our community who have called, sent messages, and stopped by to lend a hand. The Book Arts Team are all safe and sound, and thankfully one layer of our triple pane glass protected the original artwork in our gallery - so all that was lost can be replaced. We are taking time to reflect, as the history of printmaking is deeply entangled with the history of protest, and we carry that knowledge with us always as stewards of this historic craft. We stand proud to serve the vibrant and diverse communities of Western New York.

Keep going. Keep hoping. Keep pressing on.

It is hard to find the words to express just how deeply loved we have felt by our community over the last couple of days, so we are sharing this message of hope with you in return.

To all who have donated to support our repairs (that's 66 of you *lovely* people as of writing!) we are so, so grateful for your contributions - any funds raised beyond the needs of our repairs will directly support our staff during our ongoing COVID-19 closure. We thank you so much.

"I miss sharing the joy that I have making things with other people. I’m spending more of my time on crafting projects. I’m making bracelets to sell on my Etsy account. It’s a project I’ve been working on for about the last four or five years and they make really great gifts."

Miranda Heyer is a beloved Book Arts volunteer & and budding teaching artist. If you’ve stopped into Book Arts on a Friday, you’ve probably met Miranda working in the Shop! She also helps out at our events & leads workshops for families.

She comes to us through Aspire of WNY, a non-profit that works to support people with developmental and similar disabilities, helping them to live their lives to the fullest by providing individualized assistance based on personal choices. We’re so glad Miranda chose us.

“ESPERANDO EL DESTINO” LAST DAY TIL TODAY NOVEMBER 27 th. FREE OF CHARGE IN AMAZON KINDLE STORE (IN SPANISH) https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=node%3D154606011&field-keywords=esperando+el+destino&rh=n%3A154606011%2Ck%3Aesperando+el+destino A story that begins in a charity party in the south of Spain; continues through Asunción, capital of Paraguay; ciudad del Este, capital of unlawful activities and finishes in Buenos Aires. Our now friends, Jordi Gonorria, economist who also plays the role of amateur “chef” and the former police inspector Quito Verdudo, rub shoulders with the human trafficking mafia and with the politicians that rig them. A tough story, traced by a doomed fate, that even though some passages may amuse us, in others load us with the anguish produced by this modern way of enslaving and abusing of the helpless. As it is already a custom, they are accompanied by the usual friends and characters emerged from the story, the literature and even from the movies. And they end up stumbling with astonishing revelations of current issues which the media published in front pages not long ago. In the itinerary, our economist-cook some time enjoys and others bears his emotional and erotic hieroglyphs. And he makes time to offer us delicious dishes, kitchen stories and hot news about economy and economists. www.cortemoslacarajo.blogspot.com
A reminder that you are welcome to participate in this open call. Writers, designers, poets, artists, students too.
