Virtual Hugs from us at Book Arts | WNY Book Arts Center

Wowie wow, what a year! 💌 ✨ We're sending all the virtual hugs as we look back with gratitude for 2020. What was your favorite part!?

We can't say it enough, thank you for following along, for sending us your *virtual* smiles, high fives & warm wishes, and for supporting us through this quite topsy-turvy year!

Through a complete reimagining of our hands-on workshops & offerings, an entirely new online shop (thanks Telesco Creative Group & theBREWROOM ;) ), a re-developed virtual component of our exhibition series, virtual events like artists talks, studio visits & fundraisers - all while continuing building renovations! - 2020 has been an exciting challenge of rediscovering new ways to spread the book arts magic.

Take a look at our blog to see all that 2020 has brought us!
https://wnybookarts.org/a-glimpse-back-at-2020

All of this reimagining into the world of virtual was definitely something we didn't expect this year, but we are so excited for the growth & organizational milestones that will be uncovered as we tread this new territory. We really couldn't be here without your support, and are so so SO grateful.

We can't wait to see where 2021 will take us! We'll see you soon, stay curious!

❤️ Nicole, Rose & Mel

Looking back with gratitude on a very topsy-turvy year.

In a typical year, Book Arts hosts year-round hands-on book & printmaking programs for children & families across our Queen City. Known as PRINTING PARTNERS, these classes at local schools & community centers bustle with creativity, laughter, and plenty of shared supplies, ideas, and hands-on arts learning!

“This year, our students grappled with a pandemic, groundbreaking social movements, and the obstacles of internet accessibility. To make the most impact, we chose to focus on solvable challenges to create a bright spot for our students to feel safe, creative and heard." - Rosemary, Education Director of Book Arts

Together with our host Partner Sites like Carnegie Art Center Buffalo & Erie County Public Library - Central Library The WASH Project Journey's End Locust Street Art, and teaching artist Ruby, we got to work building supply kits that were distributed to local kids and families so that everyone could participate from home!

We’ve had an amazing year creating art with students across our city. The feedback from community sites, students & families has been overwhelmingly positive, too. Read more about the journey of PRINTING PARTNERS on our blog! https://wnybookarts.org/printing-partners-program-2020/

We hope you consider making a donation to support our annual campaign, which supports the ongoing of programs like Printing Partners! From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.

Can anyone there direct me to where I can get some serious book repairing and old-book restoration training. Thank you.
Next Sunday, 4/28, at 3PM, hope you'll come hear Geoffrey Babbitt, Catherine Taylor, and Shira Dentz read from their new books at Western New York Book Arts Center! There'll be refreshments too!
I planned to meet my son to shop at the new, huge store on Elmwood and could not believe that you are closed on Sundays? People work and look forward to this type of shopping on the weekend. Close Mondays instead if you have to. This doesn't make sense.

“ESPERANDO EL DESTINO” LAST DAY TIL TODAY NOVEMBER 27 th. FREE OF CHARGE IN AMAZON KINDLE STORE (IN SPANISH) https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=node%3D154606011&field-keywords=esperando+el+destino&rh=n%3A154606011%2Ck%3Aesperando+el+destino A story that begins in a charity party in the south of Spain; continues through Asunción, capital of Paraguay; ciudad del Este, capital of unlawful activities and finishes in Buenos Aires. Our now friends, Jordi Gonorria, economist who also plays the role of amateur “chef” and the former police inspector Quito Verdudo, rub shoulders with the human trafficking mafia and with the politicians that rig them. A tough story, traced by a doomed fate, that even though some passages may amuse us, in others load us with the anguish produced by this modern way of enslaving and abusing of the helpless. As it is already a custom, they are accompanied by the usual friends and characters emerged from the story, the literature and even from the movies. And they end up stumbling with astonishing revelations of current issues which the media published in front pages not long ago. In the itinerary, our economist-cook some time enjoys and others bears his emotional and erotic hieroglyphs. And he makes time to offer us delicious dishes, kitchen stories and hot news about economy and economists. www.cortemoslacarajo.blogspot.com
