Sullivans Division/Training Ship Little Rock- USNSCC

Sullivans Division/Training Ship Little Rock- USNSCC non profit youth program for 10 - 18yr old young people.
(4)

USNSCC is comprised of two programs. The Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) program is for young people ages 13 through 17. Also included under the USNSCC umbrella is our junior program the Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC), for young people ages 11 through 13. We are sponsored by the Navy League of the United States and supported by both the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard.

Mission: The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a nationwide organization dedicated to helping American youth realize personal success and achievement through a nautically oriented training program. Cadets should develop interest and skill in basic seamanship and its naval adaptations while learning the value of patriotism, courage, self reliance, teamwork and accountability.

The story of the USS The Sullivans dates back to the five brothers who all pledged to join the US Navy after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. However, they would only do so under the condition that they serve together, side by side, even as all five were killed early in the war.

The same spirit that birthed their now infamous motto, “WE STICK TOGETHER”, is one we as the Sullivans Division do not use lightly. It is at the core of everything we believe and everything we practice.

On rare occasion does that motto also extend to those shipmates we lose along the way. Former Petty Officer D. Baines of the Sullivans Division & Training Ship Little Rock was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Bailey Ave. here in the City of Buffalo last week. One of three triplets, and of four total siblings who spent time as Sea Cadets in this unit, Petty Officer Baines exemplified the core values of Honor, Courage, & Commitment, both during her time as a cadet, as well as after.

Our thoughts are with the Baines family who, much like the Sullivans brothers, dedicated themselves to being something more than everyone else around them. To the Baines family, we STILL stick together.

Fair winds & following seas for our sister and our Petty Officer, we have the watch.

1000° flames in the already scorching summer heat. Sailors from the USS Bonhomme Richard have been fighting since Sunday afternoon to save their home after an explosion started a now 3-day fire onboard the ship. They have received assistance from Federal firefighters on base, and other ships like the USS Decatur have provided crews to assist in fire suppression and damage control duties. Our thoughts are with these sailors right now ♥️🇺🇸

CHECK IT OUT! Our Sea Cadets were featured along with naval park docents in the press conference to announce the naval park would be reopening soon!

The park graciously allowed our unit to drill onboard the ships this past weekend as long as we stayed above deck and observed physical distancing and mask rules.

We can’t wait to come back onboard in just 10 days for our summer training, and get back to a normal drill schedule again!

After the normal off-season and four months of closure, we’re excited to announce that we will be ready to open for the 2020 season on July 15! 🎉🇺🇸⚓

Only the exterior main decks will be open in our first phase, but we are adding additional opportunities to learn from our docents throughout the tour route. We are also including a new exhibition in our second floor museum that honors the 75th Anniversary of the end of WWII.

To learn more, visit our website which outlines our online ticketing system and new protocols for tours. Masks and timed tickets are required.

WE ARE BACK! Our first in-person still since MARCH and our first drill that the new command was able to oversee in-person! We attempted a field operation but ran into some heavy downpour. So, we kicked back with some friends and family, enjoyed some chow and told stories about our time in the program! @ Genesee County Park & Forest

Buffalo Summer training is live on homeport... however, there is a catch:

Due to COVID we are only able to open to ourselves locally, as well as a few select eligible units. It will not be a full summer training this year.

We have:

- NLO Basic Phase II
- POLA
- NSCC RT Phase II

In order to staff or attend a phase II training, you would had to have attended an online phase I training and completed it successfully, otherwise you are not eligible.

The training will be a day camp, so cadets will be picked up and leave each and everyday, NO OVERNIGHT. The training is scheduled to take place 25JUL2020-29JUL2020.

Please contact the units admin officer to register.

I am the flag of the United States of America.

My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
Look up and see me.

I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom. I am confident.
I am arrogant. I am proud.
When I am flown with my fellow banners,
My head is a little higher,
My colors a little truer.
I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshipped - I am saluted.
I am loved - I am revered.
I am respected - I am feared.

I have fought in every battle of every war for more than 200 years.
I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appamatox.
I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy.
Guam, Okinawa, Korea and KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam know me.
I was there. I led my troops.
I was dirty, battleworn and tired,
but my soldiers cheered me and I was proud.

I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries
I have helped set free. It does not hurt for I am invincible.
I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled in the streets of my country.
And when it's done by those whom I've served in battle - it hurts.
But I shall overcome - for I am strong.
I have slipped the bonds of earth and
stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon.
I have born silent witness to all of America's finest hours.
But my finest hours are yet to come.
When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battle field,
when I am flown at halfmast to honor my soldier,
or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,

I am proud.
I am the flag of the United States of America.

Happy 4th of July to our cadets, officers, their families, and to all those who support us! 🇺🇸

An amazing historical remnant in our own backyard!

Hey Old Fort Niagara, maybe we can set something up with our cadets sometime soon?

We are so excited to announce that we have been given the go-ahead to reopen our doors to the public on Friday, July 3, 2020, just prior to celebrating America's 244th Independence Day on July 4th. Appropriate timing for sure. 🙂

We have of course adopted several health initiatives to allow guests to feel confident and safe when experiencing all the incredible happenings at Old Fort Niagara.

You can find all the initiatives, requirements, and new hours on our website here: https://bit.ly/TheFortIsBack

This is typically the date that many of you would be leaving to go to recruit training. Unfortunately, that is not possible with our current reality.

We just wanted to take a moment to say “thank you” to the cadets and parents who have stuck with us and kept us all going during these difficult times.

We hope to see you soon! ♥️🇺🇸

ALL:

Per today’s email concerning the updated email addresses by NHQ, these will NOT have any effect on cadets who are currently in cycle I online training courses. The emails can be changed and updated with no impact on communication within those trainings.

The First Medal of Honor Ever Recorded

Typically we spend Memorial Day marching in a parade and then going home and enjoying some food and the sun. This year is different. But even though the circumstances of our day will be different, this is not.

John Chapman, a USAF Air Combat Controller gave his life to retrieve and rescue a KIA Navy SEAL, as well as those sent to rescue him. He fought for hours upon hours against numbers of enemies who far outnumbered him. He qualified for two medals of honor, but at its roots he did what you would hope anyone would do for you... he gave his all. His last full measure.

John Chapman, although heavily bleeding from shrapnel and gunshot wounds, fought on until he was shot through his heart. Just as the video says, we will never know his final thoughts.

To those, and those like you, John Chapman... 🇺🇸

When signing up for the online AT’s, please carefully read what syllabus is attached to the training.

For example, the NLCC MAA training is actually a search and rescue syllabus so the focus will be on that aspect. It won’t be a traditional MAA.

Homeland Security is Emergency Management, and one of the Hazardous Materials is actually Radiological/Nuclear Emergencies.

Please carefully pick which training you want to take this summer!
