Sullivans Division/Training Ship Little Rock- USNSCC

Sullivans Division/Training Ship Little Rock- USNSCC non profit youth program for 10 - 18yr old young people. USNSCC is comprised of two programs. The Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) program is for young people ages 13 through 17.
(3)

Also included under the USNSCC umbrella is our junior program the Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC), for young people ages 11 through 13. We are sponsored by the Navy League of the United States and supported by both the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard.

Mission: The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a nationwide organization dedicated to helping American youth realize personal success and achievement through a nautically oriented training program. Cadets should develop interest and skill in basic seamanship and its naval adaptations while learning the value of patriotism, courage, self reliance, teamwork and accountability.

Meet Alyssa Carson (@nasablueberry). She‘s just 18 years old and has already started her astronaut training to be the first person to walk on Mars in 2033. She is the youngest person to graduate from the Advanced Space Academy and the only person in the world to have completed every NASA space camp.

The Buffalo Bills won and so did we 😏. Thank you to the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park for allowing us to host aboard our summer home for the last part of summer. Looks like we are all undefeated currently. Thank you and we will see you all so so soon ♥️💙

We don’t typically get to see the @buffalobills on drill weekends due to 1pm game time. Luckily we get to see them because of today’s half day! @jerzeystar is our mood for today! #BillsMafia #GoBills #USNSCC

Good morning all,

A gentle reminder that ANY cadet who has been around ANYONE presenting flu symptoms is being asked to remain at home and not attend USNSCC drills or activities that are in-person.

Thank you.

At this time there is currently no plan to hold a PRT for October as the PRT is still suspended nationwide.

That said, we can get our exercise in cheering for the Bills this weekend!

09/22/2020

This weekends drill will be a day and a half. Pick up for Sunday is at 1200. Let’s all get home safe and sound to watch the Bills take on the LA Rams!

09/14/2020

As we are not currently sure we will be able to hold an in-person drill for October, the unit will be holding a SECOND September drill the weekend of the 26th and 27th at the Buffalo Naval Park.

This will be a regular drill weekend.

Please remember that we are STILL in COVID protocols for the NSCC:

Parents need to drop their cadets off and wait until they’ve been checked in.

NHQ provided black masks must be warn when 6ft physical distancing can not be observed.

Temperature checks will be conducted twice a day, each day of drill.

This is NOT an overnight drill. Cadets MUST be picked up at the end of each drill day on time.

Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park

Contrary to popular belief, the U.S. Navy does not provide the #BuffaloNavalPark with financial support. In fact, the Buffalo Naval Park receives less than 5% of our operating budget from government sources. As a nonprofit organization, the Buffalo Naval Park depends primarily on revenues it generates from tours, special events, and programs. The cancellation of these events and programs has resulted in significant financial loss.

If you would like to support the Buffalo Naval Park, please visit https://buffalonavalpark.org/support-us/donate/ or keepingourshipsafloat.org to purchase a Challenge Coin from our #AllHandsOnDeck campaign. To date, the Naval Park has raised nearly 40% of its goal to raise $100,000! 🇺🇸

As we have some cadets who live out this way, we are sharing this public information statement to help spread the word. Thank you.

Low Flying Aircraft Alert

Small twin-engine aircraft are dropping anti-rabies packets over Evans, Eden, Boston, Colden, Concord, Sardina, and Seneca Nation today. These aircraft are flying at low altitudes of between 1,000 and 1,500 feet above the ground, and may perform several low passes over areas.

Erie County DOH advises anyone who finds a packet to not disturb it unless necessary; if you do need to move it, wear gloves and throw it in the woods. The packet poses no major threat to domestic pets, but may cause them to vomit.

We are so beyond happy with how things have been going both in front of and behind the scenes!

We have successfully returned to drill not once but TWICE, as well as having completed the adjusted summer training, but in-person summer trainings nonetheless!

Thank you the cadets, parents, and officers who have made this all possible!

We regret to announce the unfortunate passing of a man who helped this program with his entire heart and soul. (Pictured right) LCDR Charles T. Alaimo sadly passed away on 24JUL2020 at the age of 80. LCDR Alaimo was a two time Commanding Officer of the Sullivans Division/T.S. Little Rock and served as the NLUS Youth Chair for many years. LCDR Alaimo also served as an officer and special command assistant with the unit over a number of years, supervising the training of a number of current officers when they were cadets in the program, including: LCDR J. Pawli (pictures left) Regional Director of Region 3-5, ENS M. Kromphardt-RTC OIC, ENS. R. Caughill-Operations Officer, and ENS. S. Simone (Auxiliary) ATC OIC. His presence and wealth of knowledge, his drive and passion for the program will be missed.

07/16/2020

The story of the USS The Sullivans dates back to the five brothers who all pledged to join the US Navy after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. However, they would only do so under the condition that they serve together, side by side, even as all five were killed early in the war.

The same spirit that birthed their now infamous motto, “WE STICK TOGETHER”, is one we as the Sullivans Division do not use lightly. It is at the core of everything we believe and everything we practice.

On rare occasion does that motto also extend to those shipmates we lose along the way. Former Petty Officer D. Baines of the Sullivans Division & Training Ship Little Rock was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Bailey Ave. here in the City of Buffalo last week. One of three triplets, and of four total siblings who spent time as Sea Cadets in this unit, Petty Officer Baines exemplified the core values of Honor, Courage, & Commitment, both during her time as a cadet, as well as after.

Our thoughts are with the Baines family who, much like the Sullivans brothers, dedicated themselves to being something more than everyone else around them. To the Baines family, we STILL stick together.

Fair winds & following seas for our sister and our Petty Officer, we have the watch.

1000° flames in the already scorching summer heat. Sailors from the USS Bonhomme Richard have been fighting since Sunday afternoon to save their home after an explosion started a now 3-day fire onboard the ship. They have received assistance from Federal firefighters on base, and other ships like the USS Decatur have provided crews to assist in fire suppression and damage control duties. Our thoughts are with these sailors right now ♥️🇺🇸

CHECK IT OUT! Our Sea Cadets were featured along with naval park docents in the press conference to announce the naval park would be reopening soon!

The park graciously allowed our unit to drill onboard the ships this past weekend as long as we stayed above deck and observed physical distancing and mask rules.

We can’t wait to come back onboard in just 10 days for our summer training, and get back to a normal drill schedule again!

After the normal off-season and four months of closure, we’re excited to announce that we will be ready to open for the 2020 season on July 15! 🎉🇺🇸⚓

Only the exterior main decks will be open in our first phase, but we are adding additional opportunities to learn from our docents throughout the tour route. We are also including a new exhibition in our second floor museum that honors the 75th Anniversary of the end of WWII.

To learn more, visit our website which outlines our online ticketing system and new protocols for tours. Masks and timed tickets are required.

WE ARE BACK! Our first in-person still since MARCH and our first drill that the new command was able to oversee in-person! We attempted a field operation but ran into some heavy downpour. Buffalo Summer training is live on homeport... however, there is a catch:

Due to COVID we are only able to open to ourselves locally, as well as a few select eligible units. It will not be a full summer training this year.

We have:

- NLO Basic Phase II
- POLA
- NSCC RT Phase II

In order to staff or attend a phase II training, you would had to have attended an online phase I training and completed it successfully, otherwise you are not eligible.

The training will be a day camp, so cadets will be picked up and leave each and everyday, NO OVERNIGHT. The training is scheduled to take place 25JUL2020-29JUL2020.

Please contact the units admin officer to register.
