It isn’t very often that I miss a groundbreaking or ribbon-cutting ceremony. As a County Commissioner, I believe it is one of our responsibilities to support the people, invest in our communities, and celebrate the progress that helps make Pender County such a special place to live.

Today, I had the privilege of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for Renovation Church in Hampstead, and what an exciting day it was for this growing congregation and our community.

It was wonderful to see so many people come together to celebrate this milestone as the church takes the next step from meeting in a school to building a permanent home of its own. Moments like these remind us that a church is much more than a building. It is the people, the relationships, the faith, and the commitment to serving others that make it special.

I enjoyed speaking with members of the congregation and hearing their excitement for what lies ahead. The growth of this church is a testament to the leadership of Pastor John, his family, the church staff, and the many dedicated volunteers and members who have invested their time, energy, and faith into making this vision a reality.

Congratulations to everyone involved. I look forward to watching this project come to life and seeing the positive impact it will have on families throughout our community for years to come.

God is doing great things in Pender County, and today was another reminder of what can happen when people come together with faith, purpose, and a shared vision.

Originally, the HHS/DHS groundbreaking ceremony was scheduled for the 21st but was subsequently moved to the 28th. While the change created a scheduling conflict, it gave me the opportunity to experience something truly special—attending the graduation ceremonies for the students who were freshmen when I first took my seat on the Board of Education.

It was both an honor and a heartfelt privilege to sit on stage and shake the hands of our newest graduates as they crossed four different stages this past week. As each student received their diploma, I found myself reflecting on the incredible growth, perseverance, and resilience they have shown over the last four years. Behind every diploma is a unique story of hard work, challenges overcome, lessons learned, friendships built, and dreams pursued.

During the next-to-last graduation ceremony, Mr. Kenneth Keith shared a powerful message: "These graduates have crossed a river to join the ocean." What a beautiful and meaningful illustration of this moment in their lives. The river represents the journey that brought them here—the countless experiences that shaped them into the young adults they are today. The ocean represents the endless possibilities that now stretch before them, filled with opportunity, purpose, discovery, and hope.

To the Class of 2026: Congratulations on this remarkable achievement. You have worked hard, overcome obstacles, and reached a milestone that deserves to be celebrated. As you step into this next chapter, be courageous in pursuing your dreams, confident in your abilities, and grounded in the values that have guided you this far. The world needs your talents, your ideas, and your unique gifts. Never underestimate the difference you can make.

To the parents, families, teachers, and mentors: this moment belongs to you as well. Your love, encouragement, sacrifices, patience, and unwavering support helped make this day possible. You stood beside these students through early mornings, late nights, victories, disappointments, and countless moments in between. While it may be bittersweet to watch them spread their wings and take their next steps, know that the foundation you helped build will continue to guide them wherever life leads. Your influence has made a lasting impact, and today is a celebration of that commitment and care.

Congratulations again to the Class of 2026. As you leave the river behind and venture into the ocean ahead, may you do so with courage, faith, determination, and a sense of purpose. Embrace every opportunity, learn from every challenge, and never stop believing in what is possible.

Your journey is just beginning, and I have every confidence that your brightest days are still ahead.

God bless each of you and the bright future that awaits. Like and Share!

Yesterday, I had the honor of attending an Honor Flight event welcoming home our World War II and Vietnam veterans from Washington, D.C. As one of the five Pender County Commissioners, and as a veteran myself, it was a humbling experience to stand there, hand out flags, and personally welcome these heroes home. Seeing them return was a powerful reminder that the freedoms we enjoy today came at a great cost through their sacrifice, service, and dedication to our country. No gesture of gratitude will ever fully repay what they have given, but it is important that we never stop showing our appreciation and respect. Thank you to Honor Flight for the invitation and for the incredible work you do to honor those who have served. I am truly grateful to have been a part of such a meaningful event, and I look forward to supporting more of these moments in the years ahead.

When Senator Ted Budd asked about Nineteen at Olde Point Golf Club it was a surreal feeling. In that moment, it was clear he was not just passing through—he was listening. Knowing that someone in Washington cares enough to hear directly from our community about our needs is something I won’t soon forget.

As a Pender County Commissioner, I want to commend the deputy involved and the entire Pender County Sheriff’s Office for their work protecting our community. I campaigned on safety and security for the citizens of Pender County, and operations like this show exactly why that commitment matters. Our children must always be protected, and those who attempt to prey on them should know that law enforcement in Pender County is watching and will act. The men and women of the Sheriff’s Office do difficult work every day to keep our communities safe. Their dedication, professionalism, and willingness to stand on the front lines for our families does not go unnoticed.
Thank you for your service and for continuing to protect the people of Pender County.

I’ve been actively pushing to bring more essential services to the Hampstead area, and today we’ve got good news.

I’m excited to share that Model Dry Cleaners will soon be running a pickup and delivery route through Hampstead and Rocky Point—making life easier for our families and working residents.

This is exactly what supporting small business looks like: practical solutions, local jobs, and better service for our community.

It’s good for citizens.
It’s good for small business.
And it’s good for Pender County.
