🔥 Fire Scene Preservation: Training the Next Generation of Firefighters 🔥

Today, the Pender County Fire Marshal’s Office taught Fire Scene Preservation, a class created by our office, to Pender County Emergency Services newest fire recruits. This class helps firefighters understand the importance of protecting a fire scene from the moment suppression begins through salvage and overhaul operations.

This training focuses on:
đźš’ Identifying potential evidence
🔎 Understanding what evidence may look like at a fire scene
🔥Understanding basic fire patterns and what they say about the fire’s behavior
🛑 Preserving evidence from unnecessary disturbance or destruction
🏠 Understanding how suppression, salvage, and overhaul operations can impact the fire scene
đź“‹ Maintaining the integrity of the scene for investigators

Firefighters play a critical role in the fire investigation process. What happens during suppression and overhaul can have a significant impact on the evidence left behind.

We’re proud to bring this training to our recruits and help build an understanding that fire suppression and fire investigation go hand in hand.

We want to congratulate these great new recruits and welcome them to the Pender County Emergency Services family! 🔥🚒

🚨 SAFETY RECALL ALERT FOR PARENTS & CAREGIVERS 🚨

Evenflo has announced a voluntary safety recall for certain REO™ by Revolve360® car seats due to a potential issue with the headrest locking mechanism. In a crash, the headrest could shift, increasing the risk of injury to a child.

If you own an Evenflo REO™ by Revolve360® car seat:

âś… Check the model number on the white label located on the back of the headrest.
âś… If your seat is part of the recall, stop using it immediately and follow Evenflo's instructions for a free remedy.

This recall ONLY affects certain REO™ models. Other Evenflo car seats, including the original Revolve360® collection, are not included in this recall.

To determine if your seat is affected and to register for the recall, visit:

"As more people move to and visit North Carolina each year, wildfire risk increases across the state. Appropriate regulation over open burning is a necessary tool to reduce risk, especially in high-hazard counties where wildfires have the potential to get big quick and to burn more intensely for longer periods of time simply because of organic soil makeup." Steve Troxler, N.C. Dept of Agricultutre.

Emergency crews are currently operating at a brush fire in the area of Highway 421 and Underwood Drive in Currie.

The North Carolina Forest Service will be unloading tractors and plows along Highway 421 to assist with fire suppression efforts. Motorists traveling through the area are urged to use caution, reduce speed, and be alert for emergency personnel and equipment operating near the roadway.

Please avoid the area if possible and give responding crews plenty of room to work safely.

We will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.

Today, 3 of our 4 Pender County Fire Marshal’s Office staff attended Legislative Day alongside nearly 200 fire service leaders from across North Carolina. It was a great opportunity to advocate for the fire service, discuss important issues impacting our communities, and strengthen relationships with state leaders.

We were honored to briefly speak with Representative Carson Smith and Senator Brent Jackson and appreciate their continued support of public safety and the fire service across our region.

🚨 Woods Fire Update – Pender County 🚨

Fire crews have been actively working a woods fire in the area of Lake Rd. and Penderlea Highway in Pender County.

At this time, the fire is estimated to be approximately 45–50 acres in size and is currently 55% contained. Fire officials report that all forward progression of the fire has been stopped; however, this remains an active incident.

Residents in the area can expect heavy smoke and visible fire throughout the night. Smoke may also create hazardous driving conditions on nearby roadways, especially during the overnight and early morning hours. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in the area.

At this time, no homes are threatened.

All local units have cleared the scene for the evening. The North Carolina Forest Service will return tomorrow morning to continue monitoring and containment operations.

We are rescinding our ban starting at 0800, 5/3/26. If you must burn, please use caution.
