Today, 3 of our 4 Pender County Fire Marshal’s Office staff attended Legislative Day alongside nearly 200 fire service leaders from across North Carolina. It was a great opportunity to advocate for the fire service, discuss important issues impacting our communities, and strengthen relationships with state leaders.

We were honored to briefly speak with Representative Carson Smith and Senator Brent Jackson and appreciate their continued support of public safety and the fire service across our region.

🚨 Woods Fire Update – Pender County 🚨

Fire crews have been actively working a woods fire in the area of Lake Rd. and Penderlea Highway in Pender County.

At this time, the fire is estimated to be approximately 45–50 acres in size and is currently 55% contained. Fire officials report that all forward progression of the fire has been stopped; however, this remains an active incident.

Residents in the area can expect heavy smoke and visible fire throughout the night. Smoke may also create hazardous driving conditions on nearby roadways, especially during the overnight and early morning hours. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in the area.

At this time, no homes are threatened.

All local units have cleared the scene for the evening. The North Carolina Forest Service will return tomorrow morning to continue monitoring and containment operations.

We are rescinding our ban starting at 0800, 5/3/26. If you must burn, please use caution.

Tonight, the night takes on a different meaning.

Across our county… across our state… and across this nation… red lights will begin to glow.

From April 26 through May 3, we ask our community to join us in Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters. A simple yet powerful tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Each red light represents more than remembrance.
It represents a life lived in service.
A family forever changed.
A promise that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

When the sun sets and that red light shines, take a moment.
Think of the firefighters who answered their last call and the loved ones who carry their legacy forward every single day.

In a profession built on brotherhood and sacrifice, we stand together... not just in the fire, but in remembrance.

Let’s light up Pender County.
Let’s show their families they are not alone.
Let’s honor our fallen.

❤️ We will never forget.

THERE IS A BURN BAN IN EFFECT! That means NO BURNING of any kind. Not in a burn barrel, not in a fire pit, not your leaf pile, and definitely not your trash pile!

Please help us, help you, stay safe!
