Due to power outages in Avella, tonight's varsity football game will be at Hill Memorial Stadium. 7 PM kickoff. Avella will be considered the home team, so their game help will manage the game. Since Avella is the "home" team, ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for all students. Please extend Blue Devil courtesy to their game help as we navigate this late switch in venue.

🌟 WELCOME BACK, BLUE DEVIL STAFF! 🔵⚪
Our teachers and staff are officially back in action, and we kicked off the new school year with an incredible couple of In-Service days!

From team building to goal setting, our educators spent the week getting energized and prepared to welcome our students back to the classroom.

🎉 IN-SERVICE HIGHLIGHTS:

✨Welcome Performance: A huge thank you to our Marching Band, Devilettes, and Cheerleaders for their amazing performances! They brought so much energy and school spirit to welcome our staff back.

✨Breakfast & Photos: Staff gathered for a social breakfast to catch up and snap updated staff photos.

✨Opening Convocation: We officially launched the school year by introducing our newest staff members, outlining our district goals, and celebrating our teacher award winners for their outstanding achievements!

✨E-Colors Professional Development: Staff engaged in an insightful E-Colors training session led by Dr. Don Martin, Jenny Lent, and Dr. Kristin Szewczyk from Intermediate Unit 1 to foster self-awareness and intentional communication.

✨"Get Curious" Theme Launch: We unveiled our fun new theme for the school year with "Get Curious" activities, including Curiosity Bingo, The Price is Right, canvas painting, and exciting staff prizes!

✨Rotations & Learning: Staff participated in interactive sessions covering district updates, innovative technology, and inclusive classroom practices.

✨Building & Department Focus: Principals led building-level meetings, and teachers collaborated in department sessions to align their instruction for the year ahead.

Our team is focused, inspired, and ready to make this school year the best one yet. Join us in wishing our staff and talented student performers a wonderful year ahead! 💡📚

As summer quickly comes to a close and most students prepare to return to school on August 31, 71 of our students are already back to school. These students chose the CTC career pathway. We are proud of these students, whose summer ended a bit early, as they joined their classmates at WACTC today!

🍎 WELCOME TO THE BLUE DEVIL FAMILY! 🔵⚪
It was a big day in the district as our administrative team led our New Teacher Orientation!

Our new educators kicked off the morning fueling up with a delicious breakfast generously donated by local favorite, Bert's Hot Dog Shop—a huge thank you to Bert's for supporting our schools and helping us start the day off right!

The rest of the day was packed with all things Burgettstown: getting to know our administrators, brushing up on technology and special education, and learning building procedures. They enjoyed lunch alongside their mentors, followed by an afternoon tour of our buildings and classrooms to get ready for the upcoming school year.

12:10 AM 8/8/26: On Friday evening, emergency responders from several fire departments as well as Fort Cherry Ambulance and Smith Twp. Police responded to a call initiated by a community member who believed they saw smoke in the general vicinity of the MSHS. Knowing Thursday evening’s event was likely caused by a faulty rooftop HVAC unit, and after ensuring that there was not a fire-related situation inside the MSHS, the responders focused their efforts on the rooftop units. Fortunately, no issues were found, and the emergency operations ended at approximately 10:20 PM. Mr. Ziegler, our Director of Facilities conducted a thorough review of all units and concluded his inspections around 11:30 PM. Again, no issues were found. We appreciate the response from all emergency responders and note once again that the events of Thursday and Friday evenings will not impact building use in the coming days and weeks.

10:40 PM 8/6/2026: This evening, the local fire departments and EMS were dispatched to the MSHS in response to a call. A rooftop unit was identified as the source of a malfunction. An investigation found no hot spots or suspicion of fire. HVAC technicians on site this evening working on unrelated equipment inside the MSHS cut the power to the unit, and locked it down until such time that repair work can be conducted. We DO NOT anticipate interruption to building use in the coming days and weeks as a result of this incident. We appreciate the response from the Smith Twp. Police Department, Slovan/Smith Twp. Fire Department, McDonald Fire Department, Midway Fire Department, North Fayette Fire Department, and Fort Cherry Ambulance.
