Today was the last day of the County’s 2022-2023 hypothermia shelter program.
Thank you to all the non-profit partners, faith partners and volunteers in the Braddock District including Prince of Peace, St. Mary of Sorrows, Westwood Baptist, St Matthew's, St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, and St. George's for your continued participation with the hypothermia program.
These efforts would not be possible without the work and coordination of our non-profit partners like FACETS, who provide outreach, prevention services and assistance, and community resources to all the unsheltered that visit the hypothermia sites.
If you’re interested in volunteering, donating, or getting your church to host a program, please contact FACETS at facetscares.org or call 703-352-5090 and ask for Mike Dykes or Dayatra Spalding.
The Fairfax County Office to Prevent and End Homelessness conducts a Point-in-Time Count of individuals and families experiencing homelessness every January. In 2022, 1,191 people were experiencing homelessness in Fairfax County at the time of their count. That was down 3% from the previous year. This number includes people in emergency shelters, transitional housing, safe havens, and those completely unsheltered.
If you see someone who is unsheltered, and you think they are at risk of hypothermia call the County’s non-emergency Police number at 703-691-2131 and a police officer will respond to conduct a wellness check.
I look forward to volunteering with more Braddock residents next year!
