Johnson County Precinct 2

Johnson County Precinct 2 Welcome to the Johnson County Precinct 2 Facebook Fan Page!

Primary election results are in. Two races in Precinct 2 will be required to advance to a runoff election. The Congressional race and Commissioner's race will proceed to a two candidate runoff beginning with early voting starting on April 5 - 9 and the primary runoff date of April 13. Please make sure you vote in the runoff and encourage others to do the same as turnouts in runoff elections are historically low.

9-0 vote at the NTTA meeting today in favor of the 121/SW Parkway project. Fantastic news. Thank you to all who helped us get this project finalized. It was a great team effort. Appears as though the last major hurdle has been accomplished. Another great day for Johnson County.

We will post any changes to the County schedule on our website by 7 in the morning. We will also communicate to NBC 5 any closing or delayed opening information if bad weather arrives.

What a great day for Johnson County. Today at 10:00 we finally had our groundbreaking ceremony for the 121/SW Parkway interchange in Clebure. This new roadway will be a vital link to Johnson County and will remove some of the traffic off of 174 and I-35. Thank you to everyone who had a part in making this a reality.

I am proud to have partnered with Sheriff Bob Alford to establish Johnson County’s Commercial Weights and Measures enforcement program. The overweight water and rock trucks on our roadways are a danger to our citizens and destroy the County roads. Our enforcement division has issued over $1,700,000 in citations since 2008 and our roads are better and safer.

Early Voting begins today. Residents can vote at the Burleson Sub-Courthouse this week from 8 am - 5 pm Mon - Fri. and next week Mon - Fri from 7am - 7 pm.

Many County roads remain covered in heavy snow. Please keep travel on County Roads to a minimum until the snow begins to melt. Refreezing this evening will be a concern. Please use caution while traveling. We will be monitoring conditions as the snow melts so we can address water or road damage situations.

We have made the decision to close all County offices tomorrow due to bad weather. Roads continue to get worse and the safety of our employees are our top priority. We will reopen all County offices at the regular time on Monday. We appologize for any inconvienience.

Thank you to the Burleson Chamber for a fantastic Tuesday Networking event. We set an attendance record last night and I was proud to co-sponser the event. Thank you for your support.

TRTC Executive Board and membership will be meeting with the membership of Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition tomorrow to discuss regional transportation funding issues. 121/SW Parkway will certianly be a topic. I will keep everyone posted. We are excited about the future of the project.

The Burleson Rotary meeting was well attended today. Anyone interested may contact me for more information. We meet every Monday at noon.

Next Friday is Johnson County Day at the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. We will be joining the Sheriff's office in the grand entry again this year and would love to see the arena filled with Johnson County residents.

Johnson County has a Republican Primary Candidate forum scheduled for Saturday at 7:00 PM in Cleburne. I encourage you to attend to see the differences in the candidates running for office.

TXDOT Commission vote was favorable on the 121/Southwest Parkway today. Another major step in the right direction.

We will be speaking at the Lion's Club meeting this evening.

Today we will be having our North Central Texas Council of Governments Executive Board meeting. We should have an update on key projects for the DFW area as well as the 121/Southwest parkway.

We had a very good article on the front page of the Burleson Star today regarding the new Veteran's and Senior's State funded re-employment program established in Precinct 2. We are very proud of this program and encourage other departments to consider implementing it within thier staffing requirements.

Today was another good day in the progress on the 121/Southwest parkway project. The minute order tomorrow at the TXDOT commission meeting is another critical step in the process. We have a NCTCOG Executive board meeting tomorrow and will be discussing this further. I remain optimistic we will recieve good news.

We want to welcome you to our new Facebook Fan Page and hope to provide our citizens with valuable information about our Precinct and County. Commissioner John W. Matthews is the Commissioner for Precinct #2 in Johnson County.
