The Recreation Department is exploring the possibility of offering a Fall Youth Baseball Program and is seeking feedback from families to gauge community interest. The proposed program would focus on teaching fundamental baseball skills, including hitting, throwing, catching, fielding, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a fun and supportive environment for players of all skill levels.

Our commissioner Jack Capers will reach out to families as they fill out the form to discuss a fall season and the potential of a spring season. Please feel free to reach out to him via email at [email protected] or cell phone at 609-870-2653.

Information collected through the form will help the Recreation Department assess interest levels, identify potential age groups, and determine scheduling preferences.

Thank you for your interest in helping us expand recreational opportunities for our community!

Hello Residents:

In 2017, The census tract 7012.4 that includes the Yorkshire / New Yorkshire neighborhoods was designated as an Federal Opportunity Zone. The Federal Opportunity Zone Program was made permanent in 2025, establishing a new designation cycle every 10 years. As a result, the new nomination window opened in 2026, giving Governor Sherrill the authority to nominate 129 census tracts as Opportunity Zones. We have been made aware that Burlington City will keep our current opportunity zone designation along with being nominated for an additional opportunity zone that includes Census tract 7012.3 [East Burlington, Columbus Park and Lynnfield neighborhoods], the remaining boundary east of the Assiscunk Creek. This is a great news for taxpayers, business owners and Investors. The new Opportunity Zone designation will be effective January 1, 2027.

I am asking for your help. A Opportunity Zone 2.0 Stakeholder Recommendation Form link is below for Elected officials and the public for to provide feedback. The nomination form will also be shared on our website and through social media.

I hope you can complete the Opportunity Zone 2.0 Stakeholder Recommendation Form under Additional Resources along with providing a letter of support to submit with the Stakeholder recommendation form. The Stakeholder Form requires two letters of support; I have attached a letter of support that you can send in with your individual support letter.

The nomination window closes on August 28th, 2026 at 11:59 pm.

At a September 2026 Council meeting a Resolution will be placed on the Agenda for Common Council’s consideration.

Thank you for supporting our 2026 opportunity zone 2.0 designation.

Sincerely,
Mayor Barry Conaway
