Very good advice all parents should take a minute to read.

This "Momo Challenge" that has now resurfaced on the Internet is just another example of why it is so important parents continue to educate their children on the potential dangers out there as it pertains to social media and Internet consumption. Parents should always make an effort to talk with their children on this subject, monitor what their kids are consuming online and limit them on what apps and websites they are able to utilize.

The challenge works by showing the viewer disturbing images and messages enticing them to complete activities such as waking up in the middle of the night or even to partake in potentially self-harming activities. The challenge is reportedly being distributed through social media outlets such as Facebook, Youtube, WhatsApp and TikTok.

While it is difficult to fully protect one’s self or devices from this hoax there are steps you can take to protect yourself and children. First, take advantage of any parental control settings a device or social media platform has to offer. These restrictions are not perfect, but they do aid in blocking most inappropriate content on the web. If you or your child happens to come across images or messages that resemble Momo, report and block the content.

Governor Murphy Declares State of Emergency

TRENTON – Today, Governor Phil Murphy declared that New Jersey will enter a state of emergency beginning Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 5:00 a.m. ahead of the anticipated winter storm. The storm is expected to start tomorrow and continue throughout the day. Executive Order No. 57 declares a state of emergency across all 21 counties in New Jersey, allowing resources to be deployed throughout the state during the duration of the storm.

“As a winter storm is expected to impact our State, we are urging residents of New Jersey to drive with caution and use their best judgment during this time,” said Governor Murphy. “We are actively monitoring the storm and are prepared to deploy any resources available to ensure the safety of the roads.”

New Jersey is expected to experience several inches of snow that may transition to freezing rain.

To prepare for the winter storm, the New Jersey State Police will activate the State Emergency Operations Center on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 5:00 a.m. in order to monitor the storm. The New Jersey Department of Transportation will also deploy more than 2,500 plows and spreaders to keep roads and communities safe.

The Governor encourages New Jerseyans to visit ready.nj.gov for important weather updates and safety information. New Jersey residents should also pay attention to local forecasts, warnings, and watches.
