One of the reasons I became QPR certified was because I’ve seen firsthand how death by su***de can catch even those closest to someone completely by surprise. I’ve also witnessed how mental health challenges, when left untreated or unsupported, can lead someone to a place where ending their life feels like an option.

During National Su***de Prevention Month, I encourage all of us to continue checking in on one another. Listen. Be present. And above all, be kind.

We never truly know what someone may be carrying or the battles they may be fighting quietly.

Mental health touches every family and every community. This month is an important reminder that checking in, listening without judgment, and connecting people to resources can make a difference.

As a community, we must continue working to make mental health resources accessible and ensure people know where to turn before they reach a crisis. Let’s Elevate how we support mental health!

Happy Monday District 3! As temperatures begin to unseasonably soar over the coming days, please take a moment to check in on your neighbors, especially older adults, individuals living alone, and anyone who may need a little extra support.

Remember, cooling spaces can often be found right in our communities, including local libraries and other public facilities. If you know someone without reliable air conditioning, please help connect them to a safe, cool place.

This is my grandmother. She was a labor worker for about 30 years. Her career allowed her to maintain a life of stability, provide for her family, and build a foundation that generations after her would benefit from.

I grew up watching what hard work looked like through her. But I also learned that hard work should come with dignity, fair wages, security, and the ability to take care of the people you love.

Her story is one of the reasons I understand the importance of protecting working families. Labor helped build the middle class, and families like mine are part of that story.

Her hard work helped create opportunities for her lineage and I will never forget that. District 3 is full of these stories and it must be protected and understood!

I’ve been collaborating with organizations to bring resources and support directly into District 3 because listening must lead to action.
