The great DPW guys are out salting the roads. Please give them space to do their job. They are providing a much needed service that will save lives. Have patience when approaching one of the trucks.

Also, keep in mind that while plowing snow the blades push the snow to the right. DO NOT pass a plow truck that is plowing snow on the right.

And as always give a big thanks to our DPW team!!!!!

If you are reading this and driving PUT DOWN THE PHONE!!!

Please be careful driving. Heavy rain makes it hard to see. Wet roads make it hard to stop. Slow down and drive careful. Too many people love you and do not want to see you injured.

Stay safe!!!

Good afternoon.

As the Police Chief of the great City of Burton, I am excited to get back to our normal operations. When I became the Chief, I had plans on ramping up our community involvement. The pandemic put those plans on hold. As we start moving in the direction of opening up the city, I would like to start moving on those plans. I will be holding meetings with the command staff on plans to revive the neighborhood watch program. I will request meetings with the school districts to provide more services. More casual interactions between students, staff, and the police will help bring the community together. They Mayor and I have had one meeting with the local churches that we want to start back up. There are a lot of things that I want to get done, but the most important piece is community involvement. I want to make myself available to everyone. I can not do my job effectively without knowing the wants and needs of the residents and visitors of Burton. You can contact me by phone 810-244-1522, email [email protected], this page or through my own page. I look forward to partnering with everyone.

Yours truly,

Chief Brian Ross

There is another scam going around where a residence is posted on Craigslist for rent. The poster wants a security deposit sent Western Union. He even shows a picture of the residence that is pulled from a realtor site. Please beware of anything from Craigslist. Research before you send anyone any money.

Facebook a crime-fighting tool for Burton Police Department

See how Facebook has helped identify unknown suspects in many reported crimes. Local police departments including Burton PD are using the Facebook tool daily and are having great results thanks to the publics interest.

Social media is powerful. More recently, it's become a crime-fighting tool for several mid-Michigan police departments. Burton Police say asking for the public's help has put a number of criminals behind bars.

It should be understood that some information that is posted is to inform the public of important concerns we have like fraudulent activities, scams against the elderly and more. Almost 100% of the time when images are posted asking for help identifying someone, you can be sure these people are persons of interest in a possible crime. We rely on the public to help identify them. At that point we don’t provide detailed information pertaining to why we have interest in them as they are still people of interest. Thanks again for all your help.
