The City of Burton will honor all of our veterans today. Please come to the Veterans Memorial next to the police department. There will be plenty of activities for the entire family.

While you have fun watching the parade and enjoying the entertainment, please remember the reason you are there. Take a moment to read the names on the Memorial wall. Take a moment to thank one of the veterans there.

We would like to thank all of our current members of the military and all of our veterans for their selfless dedication to our country. We would like to thank all of their family members for sharing their loved ones with us.

We will be forever grateful to the men and women that laid their lives down for our country.

God Bless the United States of America 🇺🇸🙏

“We recommend home and business owners, take a minute and go through the below checklist if you have a video surveillance system. You might be surprised what you find. Surveillance systems provide an extra set of eyes and security but only when the cameras are working, the review/backup function is accessible and the camera view isn't obstructed. Make sure your system is ready to provide you that back up support, if you ever need it!

Do you know your username and password?
Is the date and time correct?
Are all the cameras working?
Are the camera lenses clear of dust, debris and cobwebs?
Are the camera views unobstructed by trees, shrubbery, and structural overhangs?
Are the cameras in recording mode or live view only?

We’ve left the 9pm Routine off the page a few days to pay respect & properly reflect on our Fallen Officers during this Past Police Week. Well, it’s time to jumpstart the week with some good habits. Crime prevention doesn’t have to be complicated. Take a minute and do the #9PM routine. Together, we can continue to prevent vehicle and residential burglaries. Have a great night! #9PMRoutine

Good Afternoon everyone, Burton P.D. is launching our #9PM routine. The #9PM routine is a nightly reminder to residents to remove valuables from their vehicles, lock their vehicle doors, lock the doors to their residences, turn on exterior lights and activate all alarms and security systems. This program is not new, and has been highly sucessful across the nation the last few years.

Every night for the next couple of weeks we will send out a nightly reminder ‪at 9pm‬ to lock up. We ask residents to set a nightly reminder on their smartphones or other devices that will remind them to follow the #9PM routine.

Criminals look for easy targets. You can make it more difficult for them by following the #9PMRoutine! Many vehicle burglaries, and to a lesser degree, stolen vehicles, occur as a result of vehicles being left unlocked. Criminals walk through neighborhoods, trying vehicle door handles, hoping to find an unlocked vehicle. The best way to prevent vehicle burglaries is to remove all of your valuables, lock your vehicle’s doors upon exiting and take the keys to the vehicle inside your residence.”

The Burton Police Department has created a program called Community And Resident Equality Services (CARES). This program is made up of officers from every rank of our department and will also include community members. Our plans of having neighborhood watch meetings were put on hold during this pandemic, but we are still working strong to better serve the community.

You will see new programs and ideas being put into action throughout the summer. One of those is pictured here. The CARES team discussed ways to let residents know when they observe concerns about potential theft risks or other observations they have about a property. We decided to create these door hangers. If officers observe a concern about your property while on patrol, the officers will fill out these hangers and place them on your door. These are just for informational purposes.

Communication is paramount to our policing strategy. If you have questions about the note, please call our office.
