Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has ordered flags across the state lowered to honor a Detroit firefighter who died in the line of duty.

Today, we remember Kris Eggle, who was tragically killed in the line of duty 24 years ago.

Kris began his career with the National Park Service in 1995 at Great Smoky Mountains National Park before serving as a U.S. Law Enforcement Park Ranger at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Canyonlands National Park. He arrived at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in 2000.

As a park ranger, Kris took great pride in his work of providing for the safety of visitors; during his time at Organ Pipe Cactus, he served as an emergency medical technician, a wildland firefighter, and performed search and rescue operations.

August 15, on what would have been Kris' 53rd birthday, current and former NPS rangers and others will be running the length of the 21-mile Ajo Mountain Drive to honor Kris' memory.

Good morning Colfax-Greenwood, Cedar Creek, Manton Area Residents.
This morning just before 6am your three local fire departments with assistance from Haring and Mobile Medical Response responded to a house fire in Cedar Creek TWP on E 18 1/2 Rd.
With the first units arriving on scene, there was heavy smoke coming through the roof, a second and third box alarm was requested. Electricity and propane were turned off by fire personnel.
An interior attack was established, knocking down the rapidly moving fire on the second story of the home.
Everyone was able to escape with two minor injuries reported. 
A huge shout out to the faithful firefighters at Cedar Creek, Manton, Colfax-Greenwood for the quick response and professional action taken, saving 75% of our neighbors home from total destruction.
Much appreciation to Wexford Emergency Manager, Wexford Dispatch, Haring FD and MMR for your assistance and Northwest Wexford emergency Authority and Selma Fire for standing by to cover our area.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a lightning strike just after 5am.
