Law enforcement agencies are spending thousands on officer wellness programs, resilience training, peer support teams, therapy apps, yoga classes, and stress management seminars.
Yet many refuse to address the single greatest source of stress inside the organization:
Bad management.
You can teach breathing techniques all day long, but they won’t fix toxic supervisors.
You can offer counseling services, but they won’t fix inconsistent standards, favoritism, micromanagement, poor communication, or leaders who create chaos every time they walk into a room.
The uncomfortable truth is that many officers don’t need another wellness seminar.
They need competent leadership.
Until agencies are willing to identify, train, develop, and, when necessary, remove managers who are damaging morale, wellness programs will simply become expensive band-aids covering self-inflicted wounds.
The greatest wellness initiative any agency can implement is putting the right people in leadership positions.
Everything else is treating symptoms while ignoring the disease.
