Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. You chair this subcommittee, and you led this bill. True.
On July 3, 2025, you voted for the final One Big Beautiful Bill — the largest cut to SNAP in the program’s history. For the first time in 50 years, states are forced to pay for food benefits.
Here’s the part worth understanding: the tax cuts in that bill started right away. The food cuts don’t hit until October 1, 2027 — after the 2026 midterms. That’s by design. You put the popular part before the election and the painful part after, so voters feel the relief before they ever feel the loss — and cast their ballots in between.
MD-01: 33,613 households on SNAP. 15,684 of them have children. The bill is already law. The cut is just waiting for the calendar.
Both are your record.
Today, advanced the FY27 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.
From Maryland’s Eastern Shore to rural communities across the country, farmers and ranchers deserve policies that put agriculture first. This bill cuts unnecessary spending, strengthens agricultural production, and invests in the long-term success of American agriculture.
Proud to lead this effort as Chairman of the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee.
