It's hard to understand why homeowners take down perfectly good 50+-year-old trees... :( ...particularly with the number of trees that we're losing each year to insects/disease and bad pruning.

Good program on WITF 89.5 right now!

This was a beautiful Camp Hill street tree that was 'topped' by a previous owner - large branches cut back to stubs. Many people (and some tree services) do this to reduce the size of the tree, but it actually creates a very dangerous tree. Lots of small, weakly-joined branches sprout, and the stub cut introduces rot that spreads through the core. Make sure that the tree service you hire doesn't do this!
