Coming Soon: City to Convert S. High Street and Columbus Street Intersection to Four-Way Stop

To improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow, the City of Canal Wi******er will convert the intersection of S. High Street and Columbus Street to a four-way stop beginning Wednesday, July 22.

The change follows a traffic engineering study conducted by the City's engineering consultant, EMH&T, which evaluated traffic operations and pedestrian activity at the intersection. Based on the findings, the City determined that converting the intersection from a three-way stop to a four-way stop will improve safety for pedestrians while helping traffic move more efficiently through the area.

As part of the project, the City recently extended the curbs at the intersection to improve visibility and shorten the distance pedestrians must cross. The curb extensions also create a more defined intersection and support the new traffic pattern.

Motorists are encouraged to use extra caution as they travel through the area during the transition. New stop signs and pavement markings will be installed, and temporary warning signs will alert drivers to the upcoming traffic pattern change.

Residents with questions about the project may contact Assistant Public Service Director Shawn Starcher at 614-524-0163.
