Throughout my life, I’ve always had a need to express my creatively, and have done so through architecture, graphic art, silkscreening, gardening, illustration and photography. In 2015 I completed a series of cat and penguin (cat and bird) illustrations which I combined into a calendar and began focusing on my nature photography – and CatbirdDesign was born. Mama Robin with a nice juicy worm for her nestlings...Because baby Robins grow very quickly, they eat massive amounts of protein—a single nestling can consume up to 14 feet of earthworms during its two weeks in the nest. To keep up with this demand, both parent Robins tirelessly hunt for food, feeding their brood nearly 100 times a day!

Rabbits might resemble rodents, but they are part of a different family of mammals altogether. Rabbits are lagomorphs, a family of animals that includes all rabbits, hares, & pikas. Lagomorphs differ from rodents in a few key ways - they have 4 incisor teeth in their upper jaw instead of 2 as true rodents do, they are strictly vegetarian rather than omnivorous, and they can only breathe through their noses and not their mouths.

A Wood Duck nest may have approximately 15 eggs lined with feathers from the female. Sometimes there will be as few as six eggs in the nest and, on occasion, as many as 40. If a female cannot find a nest of her own, then she will lay her eggs inside another wood duck's nest. A single nest can hold more than 40 eggs if some of the eggs are laid by other females. After a few weeks, the eggs hatch. The ducklings are born with feathers and leave the nest quickly. The ducklings will not be raised in the nest, but rather, on the water. This means brand new ducklings must jump out of the high tree cavities onto the ground and make their way to the water...

There’s a saying, “in the catbird seat,” attributed to the 20th-century baseball broadcaster Red Barber, that contains a nice bit of basic bird biology. The earliest published example of the usage is from “The Catbird Seat,” a 1942 story by James Thurber in the New Yorker: “ ‘Sitting in the catbird seat’ meant sitting pretty - a batter with three balls and no strikes on him.” And Gray Catbirds appear to feel the need to have the upper hand. Catbirds want to know what’s going on and be in control of the situation and often deliver their songs from a high, exposed position.
