On Monday my family and I spent the evening supporting Michele Smedick, the Homeless Outreach Advocate from McCall Behavioral Health Network, by delivering hot meals for some of our neighbors in Torrington who are unhoused. It was a humbling reminder that the people we see asking for a $1 or sleeping on a park bench in the winter cold, are human beings, children of God — people with hopes, dreams, and dignity.

Unfortunately, the need for your support is growing. With government programs focused on the poor and unhoused becoming victims of an uncaring administration, local nonprofits and neighbors are becoming more and more critical to step up to meet the need. According to the latest statewide data, about 3,735 people in Connecticut were experiencing homelessness in early 2025 — roughly a 9% increase over last year. Even more concerning, unsheltered homelessness — people sleeping outdoors, in cars, or other places not meant for living — rose by 45% between 2024 and 2025.

If you get a chance step out of your comfort zone and go meet your neighbors that are less fortunate than you. And bring a blanket or a couple sandwiches along with you. If you need more information on how to help please reach out to me or your local shelters.

So let’s blow some minds. This is me and my neighbor and friend Bill Caney. He is the Republican winner for the Board of Finance and I’m the Democratic winner. Imagine two friends that disagree on certain issues coming together to make their town a better place. Maybe our national politicians could take some lessons.

So excited to take this first step in my political careeer. Thanks to everyone in the town of Canton who came out to vote. I encourage everyone who wants to work to make this country better for EVERYONE of us to volunteer for local politics.

It's time to rally around our fellow Americans who are hurting for basic necessities. While our national politicians dine out in DC (or in their home state), many Americans are starving. While they continue to draw their massive paychecks, federal employees are going without pay. While the President denies emergency funds that could relieve the burdens on many Americans, he sends a $20 billion “investment” to a foreign country. “America First”? I don’t think so.

It’s time to elect politicians who will take responsibility to work for the people, not take from the people.

As I take the first steps to enter into the political arena here are my primary focus areas:

Rebuild Trust in the System: The erosion of public trust in institutions and political leadership is a critical challenge. Rebuilding trust requires a commitment to values of truth and responsibility, demanding transparency, accountability, and a rejection of divisive rhetoric.

Expand Opportunity for ALL Citizens in the Community: Local governments must be fundamentally oriented towards ensuring a fair shot for all Americans, particularly the working and middle classes who are most susceptible to economic anxieties. There needs to be more emphasis on improving paychecks, strengthening families, and ensuring that one job is sufficient for a decent life. Policies across the economic and social spectrum should be evaluated based on their contribution to expanding genuine opportunity.

Ensure Security for the Community: Here I am refering to security as defined broadly to encompass multiple dimensions of well-being. This includes economic security (stable jobs, fair wages, retirement stability, affordable housing), health security (affordable and accessible healthcare), national security (a strong defense, effective diplomacy, secure alliances), and community security (safe neighborhoods, effective criminal justice reform, resilience against climate change impacts).
