A Word of Thanks
As candidate for your representative for House District 147, I want to offer a word of “Thanks!” to everyone who supported me over this last year. You did so through your service by door knocking, talking, calling and helping my campaign during parades and events. Many of you donated your hard earned money to my campaign and thus enabling me to carry out a highly visible presence in Cape Girardeau. Thank you so very much. I am especially appreciative of the efforts of my campaign manager, Brock Freeman who was fighting for me everyday for the last year. Yes, I didn’t win with only 34% of the vote. So I want to talk to the 5100 people that voted for me, Democrats, Republicans and independents. Young people too voted for me. I suspect that you didn’t vote for me for my good looks. I believe that you had higher hopes that things might change and lets face it, things do need to change. We have problems that will not be attended to as long as the extremes hold power in the state legislature. I had hoped that I could serve you in just that way, to put together a common sense caucus to solve the problems that are plaguing our public school systems, our public safety, our economy, our health care, our roads and other problems in our state and Cape Girardeau. Based on the history of our legislature, I don’t believe that these problems will be addressed. So, you are probably feeling perhaps hopeless, certainly disappointed in the results of the election. Let us not give up. We need to move forward together, not feeling hopeless, but hopeful that it isn’t over and that we can do something for the betterment of our people. I’ll be getting back to you on that. Amen, Pastor Michael Davis.
