As we move out of warming center season, the need doesn’t stop and neither should we!
This winter, many of you built real relationships with our unsheltered neighbors. That matters more than you know. Seeing familiar, friendly faces builds trust and trust is what allows people to accept help, resources, and support.
▪️Staying involved doesn’t have to be complicated: Everyday kindness
Say hello when you see someone out and about. Keep water or snacks in your car to pass out, carry small gift cards so someone can grab a meal and get out of the weather, pass out cooling towels in the summer, etc. Small, consistent acts of kindness truly make a difference and remind people they are loved! You can find our friends downtown and around the plaza a majority of the time!
▪️There are also ways to stay engaged through local organizations:
-The Salvation Army offers meals and volunteer opportunities throughout the week. You can find our friends at their community meals on Monday, Wednesday, and the first Friday of the month.
-The Hub and RCC are places where people gather for connection, support, and resources. Simply spending time with someone there can mean a lot.
-Street Level (open Sun, Tues, Wed, and Fri) provides meals, clothing, hygiene items, and other essentials—serving 60+ people each day they are open. There are lots of volunteer opportunities with Street Level.
If you can’t volunteer, you can still help by donating items, supporting meal trains, or contributing to things like snack bags, tents, and shoes. Street Level alone distributes about 200 snack bags every week which are all donor funded.
You can learn more by joining Street Level- Volunteers/Donors and you can support them by viewing their wishlist of needed items!

▪️A great way to get groups involved is by hosting a food/backpack/shoe drive- if this is something you would be interested in learning more about please reach out!
▪️You can also give back through your skills—mechanics, medical professionals, case workers, and others all play an important role and are always needed!
Let’s not let the relationships built this winter fade.
Show up. Stay consistent. Be the reason someone feels seen—because real change starts with connection.
