In May 1995, the Lord led Pastor Hunter to start a neighborhood bible study group on Saturdays in her home. Waiting on the timing of God, she remained faithful in her father’s ministry until he retired due to health problems. The church eventually ended; then the Lord told her it was her time. Shortly, thereafter, with much prayer and consultation with her pastor, she launched out to plant a church. She sought the Lord for a name, and He told her to “take the spirit of your father”. She named the church “Friendship Church Outreach Ministry, Inc” (FCOM). She went out like Abraham, not knowing who would go with her or where to go, but the Lord was faithful who called her.
Believing and trusting in the Lord, Pastor Hunter stepped out by faith and the Lord led her to the First United Methodist Church, on Bowen Rd.SE. Washington, D.C. where God gave her favor with man. FCOM was founded and the first service was held on December 5, 1995, with approximately 150 people in attendance. The Lord blessed in a mighty way. Four people were saved and not even knowing if her children would join (all young adults) the Lord not only led her 3 children but also her two sisters and their husbands and children joined. Bishop Hunter went out into the highways and byways preaching with a bullhorn and many lives were transformed by the power of God. Many of them are members of the church today. Praise be to God! The ministry continues to grow. God has continued to send souls to hear the anointed teaching and preaching of Bishop Hunter, and lives have been transformed. In 1998, Pastor Hunter’s Husband, Elijah Hunter, Sr., received Jesus as his Lord & Savior by her preaching and has been by her side ever since.
In December 2000, the First United Methodist Church decided not to renew the rental contract, leaving Friendship with no place to go. The Lord had a ram in the bush by the name of Bishop Douglas Williams of Redeemed Temple. Bishop Hunter, being led of the Lord called him and shared her dilemma, and he offered his church for worship services. God stretched our faith. We moved in February 2001, to SW, Washington, D.C. where the Lord took us from glory to glory, adding such as should be added, and teaching us what true worship was all about. In September, 2001, God Blessed Friendship Church Outreach Ministry with the purchase of our new Church, located at 5252 Addison Road, Chapel Oaks, Maryland. God met every need and showered down His blessings upon us. In August of 2008, the Mortgage was paid off. On October 5, 2008, One Church, Two Locations was launched at Friendly High School, in Fort Washington, Maryland. After obeying the Lord in casting the net on the South Side, the Lord has added to the church such as to be added. God blessed with approximately 80 souls. In 2010, the Lord led Pastor Hunter to merge the two locations, One Church Reaching the Nations. In December 2014, Friendship purchased an adjacent property at 5396 Sheriff Road, Capital Heights, MD., for Outreach purposes and office space. This property was paid off in September 2016. To God be the Glory for the things He has done, Hallelujah!.
