Last night City Council conducted and passed the first reading of “Personal Transportation Devices”. This ordinance pertains to items such as bicycles, e-bikes, electric scooters, and other devices. Rather than waiving a second and third reading, we felt it best to allow time for public input.

I want to give a shout out to Chief Koch for his work on this.

The proposed ordinance can be found under the corresponding link on last nights agenda.

I would ask that everyone share information as it comes out. An informed and educated community is one that ultimately can work together to foster a safe environment. Talk to your neighbors, talk to a friend, ask them if they’ve seen educational pieces as they come out.

This is an ongoing discussion, and one that city officials are aware of. I have full faith in our Police Chief to ensure continued education is pushed out, and discussions continue to happen with those that may not have a great understanding.

Feel free to contact me regarding any concerns.

The topic of e-bikes and or electric motorcycles has brought a lot of attention in our community.

Tonight at the City Council meeting, I asked to oversee this alongside Police Chief Koch. There needs to be education to children and parents of children who are not following traffic laws and acting in an unsafe manner which puts their safety, along with the safety of others at risk. It is not our hope to infringe on abilities but make sure all applicable laws are being followed and to ensure the safety of children is at the forefront.

As the State of Iowa does not have clear guidance on specifics, they do have laws regarding the requirements on being able to operate the different types on the streets/sidewalks.

In the coming weeks, there will be more coming out on this from myself, and the Carlisle Police Department.

Thank you

Rudy

Congratulations to Officer Tony Palmer on his retirement from the Carlisle Police Department!

Tony has not only been a dedicated employee but a friend to anyone that knew him. I am honored to call him a a great officer, mentor, and above all else, a good friend.

As a councilman, it brings joy to watch people retire as it means that we are doing something right. As a friend, I am sad to see him go.

Badge 167, enjoy retirement!!
