“Franklin County neighbors,

After much prayer, thoughtful consideration, and many conversations with my family, I have decided to run for a second term as your District 3 County Commissioner. Serving this county for the past three years has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together.

During my time on the board, we have worked hard to protect our unincorporated rural areas by strengthening the UDC and updating requirements for major subdivisions. We were grateful to approve a new training center to better equip and support our firefighters. We’ve made important capital improvements to the Elections Office, Senior Center, Jail, and Health Department. We also approved a much needed upgrade to our 911 radio system, which is currently being built out to improve emergency communication across the county. Furthermore, we’ve hired an in house inspector to help alleviate concerns our citizens have had as they have navigated building homes and improving their properties.

We were able to reach a settlement with Corridor Development, preventing a large multi family development from being built on prime industrial property near I-85. This preserves valuable land for future economic growth and job creation while saving the taxpayers money on services and educational expenses. Additionally, we have been actively working toward long term solutions to address regional water shortages, and I am hopeful we will soon be able to help ease that burden for our community. We’ve done all of this while rolling back taxes and being mindful stewards of your hard earned dollars.

While much has been accomplished, there is still important work ahead. I ran to protect and preserve our farmland while ensuring our zoning supports thoughtful economic growth along the I-85 Corridor and within our industrial parks. There are several promising projects in progress that I believe will come to fruition soon, bringing quality jobs to our community and helping relieve some of the tax burden on our families.

The next four years will present new challenges. The state is currently working on legislation to eliminate homestead property taxes by 2032. While the idea of no longer paying property taxes on our homes is certainly appealing, it will create significant challenges for local governments to navigate. It will take steady leadership, careful planning, and a deep understanding of our county’s needs to ensure we continue providing essential services without placing unintended strain on our citizens.

Franklin County is a special place. It’s where we raise our families, build our businesses, worship together, and look out for our neighbors. I remain committed to protecting our rural character, strengthening our local economy, and making decisions that reflect the values of the people who call this county home.

I would be truly honored to earn your support and your vote again on May 19 as I seek a second term as your District 3 County Commissioner. It has been a privilege to serve you, and I do not take your trust lightly. If given the opportunity to continue, I will remain committed to listening carefully, leading responsibly, and always putting the people of Franklin County first.”

“My name is Mike Payne, I am running
for District 3 Commissioner. I believe the
County has been stagnant for too long
and is in need of infrastructure to bring
in businesses with tax revenue. We
need to fix the water problem and recruit
retail and manufacturing business to the interstate corridor and the industrial parks in the
County. If we can bring additional tax revenue
to the county it can help with rising property
taxes and at the same time it will bring
jobs. We are a housing authority for surrounding
counties now, they have the jobs and we
have the houses. We need to bring jobs
and the tax revenue to Franklin County
to help the property owners with their
property tax to keep it from getting higher
each year”

“It is with much excitement that I, Kyle Westbrook, am announcing my candidacy for Franklin County Board of Commissioners, District Four. I am a lifelong resident of Franklin County with roots tracing back over seven generations and someone who truly cares for this beautiful place we call home. I grew up a few miles outside of Lavonia and chose to settle down in the Sandy Cross community in 2010 with my wife of 16 years, Melanie Westbrook, and our three sons Max (12), Slate (10), and Abe (7).
I am a 2008 graduate of Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. As a first-generation farmer, I bought my first piece of land after graduating college and have had a passion for raising poultry and cattle ever since. My mission has been to help local farmers and businesspeople obtain the capital they need to be successful and build a strong local economy. Professionally, I currently work as an agricultural loan specialist with the Georgia Development Authority. Previously, I worked as a commercial loan officer for 13 years with AgGeorgia Farm Credit and managed a small business working for my father at Fab-All Metalworks in Lavonia for six years. My family and I are active members of Royston Baptist Church. My passion for coaching youth sports, including football, basketball, and baseball, led me to serve on the Franklin County Little League Board of Directors for the past seven years.
Many of you who know me would agree that I do not consider myself a politician. I am seeking office because I want to improve the quality of life for all citizens of this county while at the same time ensuring that Franklin County maintains its rural character and remains the heart of agriculture in Northeast Georgia. Franklin County has some of the most capable and innovative businesspeople and farmers in the entire state. Although I am for preserving our rural landscape, I also believe that industrial and commercial developments are necessary for a thriving local economy. I-85 is an asset that local government should use to assist local businesses with opportunities to expand instead of seeking out-of-town developers with tax breaks and attracting industry that requires large scale residential developments. Government should work for the people and serve the people. Our board of commissioners should work with the board of education to make decisions that will have a positive effect on property taxes and schools. If elected, I plan to work alongside the other commissioners, county staff, and employees to serve the citizens of Franklin County and handle business in a transparent and proactive manner as a public servant. Citizens’ opinions matter and should be listened to when decisions are made that affect your homes, farms, and livelihoods. I do not take this position lightly, and if elected I will be the voice of the people and serve in true democratic fashion. Help me to make Franklin County be a place where our children and future generations can live the good life by voting for me on May 19th, 2026, in the Republican Primary!”

“My name is Wesley Fricks, and I offer myself as candidate for Franklin County Commissioner District 4. I’m running for Commissioner of District 4 because I believe our county deserves strong, common-sense leadership and a future we can all be proud of.

As I travel across Franklin County and talk with folks, I hear the same thing over and over. People want leadership that listens. They want responsible government. And they want a county that works together.

That’s why my campaign is built on a simple platform.

First, we must unify Franklin County. No matter where you live in our county, we all want safe communities, good opportunities for our families, and a local government that respects the people it serves.

Second, we need to lower taxes and be responsible with taxpayer money. Hard-working families should know their local government is spending wisely and focusing on what truly matters.

Third, we must encourage common-sense industry and economic growth that brings opportunity while protecting the character of our community.

Fourth, we must protect our farmers. Agriculture is the backbone of Franklin County, and we must stand with the men and women who feed our communities and keep our heritage strong.

And finally, we must support local education, because strong schools build strong communities and prepare the next generation for success.

My message to the citizens of Franklin County is simple: I hear you, I respect you, and I’m ready to work for you.

We must come together with unity, common sense, and a shared vision for the future. I know that Franklin County’s best days are still ahead of us.

Let's stand together and UNITE FRANKLIN COUNTY!”
