This year's National Association of Counsel for Children conference theme is" "Solutions That Sustain: Cultivating Community, Advancing Practice," and it captures an idea we think is really important.

Every attorney, social worker, mentor and other family-serving professional involved in the child welfare system struggles to sustain the support they desire to deliver to families, the support system-involved families needs to achieve permanency.

As the conference kicks off this week we'll be looking at technology-enabled pathways to sustainable practice for attorneys and interdisciplinary teams; tools that promote communication and connection with families, and free time from administrative compliance for high-quality legal representation.

Come hear from Timothy Michaels-Johnson, J.D., Region 5 managing attorney with Oklahoma's Office of Family Representation, who is strategically deploying technology with the kids and families they serve in mind.

We're proud to be a Sapphire Sponsor of a conference built around sustainable innovation.

Are you attending the Association of Counsel for Children 49th annual conference? If so don't miss our roundtable, focusing on a problem every attorney representing child welfare-involved families knows well: the communication challenges that can lead to families not knowing who represents them or what they need to do to navigate an overwhelming system successfully.

Tech-Empowered High-Quality Representation: Innovative Tools That Elevate Parent & Youth Advocacy Workshop A-6, Wednesday, 10:30 a.m.

Join Ryan O'Donnell, CEO and Co-Founder of Sunlight; Valerie Frost, Head of Training, Community and Impact; and Timothy Michaels-Johnson, J.D., Oklahoma Office of Family Representation, for an interactive discussion of how Sunlight's secure communication platform effectively engages families and helps attorneys provide zealous legal advocacy that reunifies families safely, sooner.

We'll poll the room on the pain points attorneys, social workers and mentors face every day, then walk through real use cases from a statewide office that made the switch.

If you're attending NACC, we hope you'll plan to join us.

We're heading to Portland for Association of Counsel for Children's 49th National Child Welfare Law Conference, August 12 through 14, as a Sapphire Sponsor.

If you represent parents, youth or agencies in dependency court, come find us. We build the tools that help attorneys, interdisciplinary teams and the families they serve connect, communicate and collaborate so families reunify safely, sooner.

Look for the Sunlight booth on the exhibit floor. We're also offering a free, limited trial for NACC members while we're there. We'd love to say hello.

Big news from the Sunlight family.

Sunlight has been named one of nine award recipients in the inaugural National Foster Care Innovation Challenge β€” selected from 110 applicants by Flourish Fund and Eagle Venture Fund, with support from Google.org and the Aviv Foundation.

Sunlight Verified will be a new platform that brings together fragmented child welfare, background screening and abuse registry information into one place for foster care and volunteer screening.

Because keeping children safe and getting families home aren't competing goals. They're the same mission.

We're honored to be recognized alongside eight other organizations doing extraordinary work across the foster care continuum β€” from preventing unnecessary family separations to supporting youth as they age out of care.

More details on Sunlight Verified are coming soon. For now, you can read about all nine award recipients and the vision behind this challenge at the link below.

Here's a number that should stop us all in our tracks: More than half of child welfare cases in North Carolina are delayed because people weren't properly notified about required court hearings.

It’s happening in large part because there's not a reliable way to ensure everyone who needs to know gets notified.

NC HB1191 would fix this by funding and mandating a data-sharing notification system across agencies that need to be talking to each other. It's a follow-on to last summer's Fostering Care in NC Act, and it has strong bipartisan support.

Sunlight fully supports this legislation.

We're adding new rays of sunshine: β˜€οΈ

Three new people who share something in common β€” they come alive outdoors with the people they love. Which, as it turns out, is a pretty great match for a company called Sunlight.

Meet them πŸ‘‡

Jon Spinney, Head of Finance & Operations β€” Numbers guy who'd rather be knee-deep in surf. Runs the business the way he runs into the ocean: all in.

Nanette Kirsch, Head of Marketing β€” Trekking the sand at sunrise is where she prefers to spend her days, back in time to make coffee and breakfast for a house full of friends and family.

Shawn Williams, Head of Sales β€” Sports dad. Happiest when there are snacks, kids in the backseat, and a Buc-ee's at the next exit. He chooses sunset and mountains every day.

At Sunlight, we build tech that helps families in the child welfare system stay connected, supported and moving toward their goals.

Powered by sunshine-loving people Sunlight works to make everyone's days a little brighter. Welcome, team πŸ’›
