Official statement from the Pinal County Recorder Dana Lewis. I was disappointed to learn that Governor Hobbs vetoed HB 2703 despite the support of 75% of Arizona voters and 75% of Arizona’s elected county recorders. Even more disappointing was the lack of outreach from her and her office regarding these important election reforms. I will continue to work with our legislature to seek appropriate remedies and reform in order to continue to improve our election systems.

Arizona voters take elections seriously and value timely and accurate results. Yesterday, the Arizona Senate responded to their dissatisfaction with the current process for tabulation and reporting by passing SB1011. The bill will make critical improvements to the early ballot drop-off timeline in existing election law, that contributed to lengthy tabulation times. SB 1011 includes necessary safeguards to ensure every voter has equal access, while respecting the will of the people and the purpose of elections. We applaud Senator Peterson for including County Recorders in drafting this bill, allowing us to also advocate for our constituents. I encourage those that agree to write to the Governor and request she sign this bill.
