Reminder:

Good Friday morning!

We would like to remind you of two major events in the western portion of Erie County that will affect the traveling public starting this afternoon and continuing throughout Sunday afternoon.

The annual Cold Creek Festival in Castalia starts today. Main Street (State Route 101) in the village will be closed between Lowell Street (near the Duck Pond) and the traffic light at North/South Washington Streets (State Route 269) starting at 11AM this morning until about 5PM on Sunday afternoon. In addition, traffic into the village will be completely closed from about 1:30PM until 3:30PM on Sunday during the parade.

The annual Ironman 70.3 Ohio competition starts early Sunday morning in Sandusky with the swim portion and, by about 7AM and lasting until about 12 noon, the approximately 1200 athletes involved in the bike portion will begin riding through western Erie County, into eastern Sandusky County, and then returning into Erie County and into downtown Sandusky for the conclusion of the event with the run. The attached map shows the bike route and the roads that will experience temporary closures based on the volume of bicycle traffic throughout the morning outside of Sandusky. Roadways and intersections experiencing periodic lengthy closures in Margaretta and Groton Townships of Erie County will include State Route 269 between Portland and Dining Roads, Mason Road between State Route 269 and Deyo Road, State Route 101 at Bardshar Road, Bogart Road at Bardshar Road, Heywood Road at its intersections with both Bardshar and Homegardner Roads, and Maple Avenue at Homegardner Road. Other intersections will be closed intermittently for shorter periods of time. Emergency vehicle response will not be affected by these closures, and deputies will be providing traffic control throughout the event.

Please be aware of this information if you intend to travel in the area during the listed times and allow for extra travel time—especially for those attending the Cold Creek Festival on Sunday. We hope that everyone has a safe weekend on our roadways, and we wish all of the Ironman athletes good luck!
