You can find out with today’s throwback! Enjoy these retro photos from our Crime Prevention Unit circa 1979.

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Crime Awareness and Prevention (CAP) Unit strives to support citizens and families in Wilmington to reduce their chances of being the victim of a crime.

Over the course of many years, the CAP Unit has taken proactive measures to educate and protect youth and senior citizens in our county through outreach programs.

Our popular projects include ConfirmOK, Citizens’ Academy, Project Lifesaver, RAD, Bring the Lost Home, Public Safety Cadets, and more. The specialty courses are designed to minimize risk in the community and find support for individuals who no longer can handle social, legal, or medical problems alone!

The training offered by the unit is free and accessible to the public.

Meet the first female Detention Officer Lieutenant in the history of the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office!

Lt. Spruill has spent approximately 21 years of distinguished service at the Sheriff's Office. She leads by example through integrity, professionalism and composure.

Spruill is deeply committed to the the success of her squad and the mission of the agency. Her dedication to working as a conscientious team player inspires others.

She places an emphasis on maintaining a work-life balance. Traveling and time with family is important to her. She has been married to her husband for 25 years who is a retired Captain that served with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction.

Spruill's positivity and unwavering loyalty to the agency are celebrated!

As we get ready for a new school year, now is the perfect time to practice safe ways to get to school.

Whether your student is walking, biking, or riding the bus, take some time this week to review the route, talk about traffic safety, practice crossing streets safely, and go over bus safety basics.

We’ve got your back!

The New Hanover County Youth Development Back to School Bash met today to prepare school-based counselors and social workers for the school year.

Speakers included ELEMENTS, Communities in Schools Cape Fear, Nourish NC, New Hanover County Health and Human Services, New Hanover County Schools, and Coastal Horizons.

Visitors had the opportunity to learn about youth programs and referral procedures to get students extra help in times of need!
