The pandemic was one of the most challenging times if you were on a school board. I am the only candidate who was there in the summer of 2020 and proudly cast my vote to keep Hanover open when every other school around us closed down.

We faced Covid as a group of leaders. We did what was best for kids and were not swayed by anyone saying, "you can't open school, no one else is." We knew that offering the personal choice of e-learning or in school instruction wasn't going to be easy. Leaders don't do what's EASY; they do what's RIGHT.

I have been tested through crisis. This is why teams have veterans on their roster. This is why experience and leadership matter.

When I was in school the biggest threat to someone's safety was, maybe, a fist fight. That is not the world we currently live in. There is nothing higher on my priority list than keeping our students and staff safe. This is why I volunteered to be on the committee that hired full-time, armed SROs dedicated to each building. Some advancements in my tenure have been:

• Behavioral threat assessment teams have been put into place in all buildings.

• Switching bus cameras to 247 Security Inc.

• Installing new security cameras throughout the district.

• Meetings with community partners to discuss legal updates and district safety concerns.

As technology evolves so does the opportunity to merge the outstanding skills of our SROs with the aptitude of the latest technology. The next step is to develop a new standardized access control system in all buildings. This command center will use a configuration of hardware and software, operating as one connected ecosystem. The ability to Detect = Analyze = Communicate = Manage any potential problems in real time. Motorola, for example, has some excellent options to accomplish this.

We have an excellent director of safety and security. I will continue to support all of his efforts to make Hanover the role model in security. No one has, or will, work harder to make sure everyone is safe.

Taxes, Taxes, Taxes

Everything costs too much. We all feel it every day. Higher property taxes only allow you to keep less of your hard earned money. In every decision I make, I am aware of the massive responsibility I have regarding people's taxes. How we handle our budget directly affects how you handle yours.

Let's look at our neighbors to the west. Illinois' school philosophy is tax, tax, tax, and spend, spend, spend. How's that working out? As a business owner, I know the answer isn't "Just raise prices". But I don't just say I will lower taxes; I've done it.

I am currently a member of the Hanover School Board and running for re-election. I am a local business owner, I have 4 boys in Hanover schools, and my wife, Gretchen, has spent her entire career in the Hanover Community School Corporation.

I, along with Gretchen, know that strong schools make a strong community and as a funeral director and educator, respectively, we have dedicated our professions to serving our community.

As a school board member I have:
 Repeatedly LOWERED taxes.
 Hired full-time, armed SRO's dedicated to each building.
 Raised teacher and non-certified staff wages.
 Expanded campuses, built Red Cedars Elementary and opened the 1st Hanover Pre-School.
 Kept Hanover schools open during COVID.

I am extremely proud of my accomplishments as a school board member and I will continue our path of excellence.
