Adam Nelson-Ockenfels: Functional Deconstruction & Glaze Experimentation

In Functional Deconstruction & Glaze Experimentation, Adam explores the relationship between function, form, and critical thinking through the familiar language of ceramic vessels. The exhibition features an extensive collection of glaze experimentation developed throughout Adam’s residency. This exhibition is the first in the 2026 Resident Artist Exhibition Series, celebrating the accomplishments of the artists who have spent time creating, teaching, and growing through our residency program.

This collection showcases the comforting predictability of classic patterns—stripes, polka dots, paisley—and infuses them with the untamed energy of Midwestern vegetation. It is a visual celebration of plants pushing through boundaries, demonstrating that nature always finds a way. Artist Reception 5-7pm on July 2nd.

It’s First Thursday in New Bohemia 🙌

Opening reception for 2x2xU Community Art Exhibition: Celebrate the opening of this community collaboration by starting in the Schwartzkopf Gallery on the first floor of The Cherry Building. Enjoy drinks and nibbles, pick up your map and then continue on throughout New Bohemia to see all of the 2x2xU boards displayed at local businesses.

First Thursday at Tree of Liminality - 6-9pm -
Join in the fun on First Thursday from 6-9pm to cut and glue to create art! It’s the perfect opportunity to make something cool for the *Late Stage Postalism* exhibition this summer.
Everything you’ll need will be provided - mixed papers, ephemera, magazines, and of course lots of glue, but feel free to bring your own. You’ll also have access to a computer with b&w laser printer and at least one typewriter. This is a free event with a $5 suggested donation to our sister nonprofit Farmhouse Art Collective.

One more month to view in the Schwartzkopf Gallery:
“My name is Frances”

On display in the Schwartzkopf Gallery until the end of June. In this series of artwork, Kathy has illustrated the experiences of her Grandmother. On October 25th, 1941, her Grandmother was committed to the Iowa Asylum for the Insane in Independence, Iowa. Kathy has examined the records of the 15 years her grandmother was in the asylum, and combined this history with family memories to create a series of drawings illustrating her Grandmother’s story.
