Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio • Chocolate Brown: An Exhibition by Morgan Hageman
Chocolate Brown explores the relationship between texture, process, and form through a distinctive
approach to ceramic construction. Using piping tips traditionally associated with cake decorating,
Morgan Hageman has developed an innovative technique that transforms soft clay into richly
textured vessels and sculptural forms. Each piece reflects an ongoing investigation into surface,
repetition, and material, as the artist continues to refine her process and discover new possibilities
within this unconventional method. The resulting work blurs the line between the familiar and the
unexpected, inviting viewers to experience ceramics through a fresh tactile perspective.

Featured in the Schwartzkopf Gallery on the First Floor starting September 3 for First Thursday New Bohemia:

“Shelters and Blooming Things” by Akwi Nji

Through an earthy palette for Shelters & Blooming Thingz, contemporary artist Akwi Nji brings together a body of work exploring sanctuary, emergence, and the spaces we create for ourselves and one another to grow. “I appreciate inviting new interpretations of the work, inspired by abstraction, layered mark-making, earthy colors, and an attention to form,” Nji says.

The most recent body of work considers shelter as community, cityscape, boundaries, refuge, and a place to gather strength. It’s contemporary, minimalist, and rich with story that will be best experienced in person.
