FROM PATAGONIA:
Our employees, customers and communities depend on public lands. Moving the Forest Service’s headquarters to Utah will gut the agency and effectively remove anyone who doesn’t move to an office 2,000 miles away from its current location. By shutting down USFS research stations, culling staff, and moving the headquarters away from where decisions about federal lands are made, it will be surprising if USFS can effectively manage anything at all.

Looking at the current move to overturn the management plan of Grand Staircase-Escalante and all the other ways public lands are being threatened in Utah, there’s no reason to believe this will benefit anything other than the extractive industries. We will continue working with our Tribal and nonprofit partners to protect public lands and advocate for more funding for USFS and the Bureau of Land Management. This is an uphill battle, and we’re in it with you. Here's a link to Patagonia Action Works: https://www.patagonia.com/actionworks/home/choose-location/. Through this link you can find local organizations to partner with that may also be fighting for this cause. Also, we recommend contacting your local congressperson so your voice is heard there as well.

"Ultimately, Lee's fight to dismantle Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is part of a bigger disagreement about what public lands are meant to be. For Lee and his allies, the land represents economic potential—resources that states should be free to develop. For conservation groups, the value lies in preserving cultural heritage and ensuring public access.

When Theodore Roosevelt first set aside lands for conservation, he was betting on the idea that wise use and access to nature were as important as any other American value. But if Lee and Maloy succeed in passing their resolution, that vision may be damaged for generations."

A man, a monument, and the battle for the future of conservation

Public lands won! SJ-9 — the public lands resolution — passed out of the Wyoming Legislature (on a 54-7 House vote). This is historic. The legislature of the state of Wyoming OPPOSES the “indiscriminate sale or exchange of public lands.”

Thank you to every public land user who spoke up and to the many elected officials in the legislature who listened to Wyoming.

Contact the committee to encourage them to vote "YES" on SJ0009. It's tomorrow (Thursday).https://www.facebook.com/share...

Last night, Senator Mike Lee backed down and reversed his attempt to strip national park and public land protections from the Interior Appropriations bill.

This is real progress and it happened because people spoke up. Park advocates raised their voices, flooded Senate offices, and made it clear that selling off or weakening public lands is unacceptable.

That said, this fight isn’t fully over. The Senate recessed before voting, and we have to stay alert in case this threat resurfaces.

This is what collective action looks like!

Public lands are in Sen. Mike Lee’s crosshairs again, and this time he appears to be targeting national parks big and small.
