✝️ Hope Tree Church- 100 years of Hope

At a recent City Council meeting, it was an honor to proclaim September 14th as Hope Tree Church’s 100th Anniversary in the City of Ceres.

Through milestones like this, we are reminded of the goodness of God and the impact of a church that has faithfully served its community.

Thank you Hope Tree Church for the commitment you have made in our city and for being a light in our community. It was an honor to recognize you!

Great work by all involved in the actions that needed to be taken on this property 👏

I appreciate this statement made by the Ceres Police Department-

“As we continue addressing issues at this location, we also have a responsibility to be good stewards of public funds.
The City will be working with the City Attorney's Office to pursue appropriate measures, including placing a lien on the property when legally authorized, to recover costs associated with future abatement and cleanup efforts. Our goal is to ensure that the financial burden of maintaining private property does not unnecessarily fall on Ceres taxpayers”.

This past Monday, the Ceres City Council approved additional sections of two city ordinances addressing the use of public areas and City parks. These are outlined in the August 24 City Council agenda.

🔹9.01.070- Unauthorized Camping in Public Areas

* Imposes restrictions on public camping and obstruction of public walkways as necessary to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public, including camp occupants.

🔹9.16.120- Use of Parks for Recreational Purposes
Only

* Outlines the intended activities for our parks, including walking, jogging, picnicking, sports and passive leisure.
* Outlines the prohibited activities for our parks, including non-recreational activities that interfere with the recreational use by others.

Together, these additions protect safe, clean, accessible public spaces and allow the city to address unauthorized camping and encampments.

đź“° Ceres Courier- Councilwoman Cerina Otero said:

“Unfortunately, because of state laws and everything, we get to the point where cities have to control what’s happening within, because you can only do so much when it comes to the lack of consequences for some of these individuals. This is a way to keep our parks safe and keep our youth safe and anybody who enjoys the area. So I do appreciate this cleanup.”

Unfortunately, this graffiti was not cleaned up as expected last week. Yesterday evening, I followed up with the City Manager again. The only information shared today was that the city expects this to be cleaned up soon. I will continue to monitor this.
