On the 40th anniversary, the community gathered at the Cerritos Air Disaster Memorial in remembrance of the tragic events of August 31, 1986. The Cerritos City Council presented a wreath and read aloud the names of the 82 people who died when two planes collided mid-air and crash-landed in the City. Mayor Lynda Provido Johnson and former Cerritos Mayor and Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe provided remarks, and Senior Pastor Bob De Leon from Calvary Chapel Artesia delivered the invocation. The floral arrangement remains on display at the Memorial inside the Cerritos Sculpture Garden, and the public is invited to visit to pay their respects.
