Today, March 27th, we learned that scammers are 'spoofing' our department’s main phone number in an attempt to trick you. A resident reported receiving a call that appeared to come from our office at 440-498-4401. The caller claimed to be a police officer, cited a fake badge number—specifically 56821—and threatened the resident with federal criminal charges.

In this case, our resident did exactly the right thing: they hung up and called us directly to verify. I want to be very clear: The Orange Village Police Department will never demand money, gift cards, or any form of payment over the phone to avoid an arrest.

Official police business involving charges or warrants always includes legal documentation, in-person contact with a uniformed officer, and the involvement of the Bedford Municipal or Cuyahoga County Courts. If someone calls you demanding payment to 'clear' a warrant, it is a scam.

If you receive a suspicious call, please hang up immediately. You can always reach us directly to verify any information at 440-498-4401 or 440-247-7321. We are here to help you 24/7. Thank you, and stay safe.

It is with the greatest sadness, that we announce the death of Bainbridge Police Detective Brian Frew, badge #8401.

Detective Frew passed away unexpectedly March 12, 2026, due to a medical condition. Brian was with the Bainbridge Police Department for 23 years, and held the positions of Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and Detective. He was loved and respected by all.

We want to say thank you for all the support we have received already from the community, and our neighboring law enforcement agencies.

There are no words for this one. We will miss him terribly.

Thank you for your service, Brian. Rest easy. We have the watch from here.
