This Recreation Inclusion Aide position is to provide one-on-one support to a child with disabilities during the after school program. Assist participants with transitioning between activities, following routines, and understanding program expectations. Encourage independence while providing only the level of assistance needed for success.

Hours - Part time, Monday-Friday afternoons during the school year. Following our After The Bell program schedule.

Sensory Open Gym is back with new dates and times for the summer and is now FREE!! 🛝🤸‍♀️
Ages 2-5 years with adult

Let your little one play, move, and explore in our sensory friendly open gym designed for toddlers and young kids with sensory needs. Each week different equipment and sensory stations will be set up. This open gym time will be unstructured and go at your own pace. Parents must actively participate with the child. No staff supervision.

Location: Arrowhead Community Center
Times: 10AM-1PM
Dates: Mondays June 1 & 15, July 6 & 20, and August 10 & 24

Tomahawk Aquatic Center opens next week which means our Adaptive Swim Lessons are almost back! 🏊‍♀️

Adaptive swim lessons are for participants with documented special needs or disabilities. Participants will be placed with an instructor, depending on needs, either individually or in a small group. A variety of swimming skills will be worked on such as going underwater, supported and unsupported floating, kicking, and exhaling underwater. Adaptive lessons are not taught to a lesson curriculum, but rather participant need.

Young Athletes Program is Back in June! 🤸‍♀️
Ages 2-5 years with adult

Special Olympics Young Athletes is an early childhood play program for children ages 2 to 5 years old. Young Athletes introduce basic sport skills, like running, kicking and throwing. During the program children will learn how to play with others, learn to share, take turns and follow directions.

Young Athletes is a fun way for children to stay active and establish healthy habits for the future. Young Athletes welcomes children and their families into the world of Special Olympics, this program will prepare them to join a competitive Special Olympics sport later on. Parents must actively participate with the child.

Location: Central Park
Fee/Resident Discount: $20/$15
Dates: Wednesdays June 3-17
Time: 5-6 PM

Join us for a spring session of Nature Crafts! 🌳🎨
Ages 6-12 years

Get creative with the great outdoors! In this hands-on program, kids will use natural materials like leaves, sticks, rocks, and flowers to make unique art projects and crafts. From leaf prints and rock painting this program will spark imagination while connecting kids to the beauty of nature. Perfect for kids who love being outdoors and creating something special to take home!

We will not have Sensory Open Gym at Arrowhead Community Center on Monday March 30 - see you back in April!!

📣 Upcoming Building Closure - Arrowhead Community Center 📣
March 27 - April 13

Arrowhead Community Center will be taking a "Spring Break" of its own to have the flooring replaced throughout the building starting this Friday March 27th. During this time, the building will be closed to the public, but as alway, Heritage Crossing Field House is open to answer any questions or assist with registration as well as our website being available 24/7!

Kids Connection Preschool families - ENJOY SPRING BREAK! Classes will resume as planned, please be on the lookout for additional communication coming from your teachers upon returning!

Group Fitness - also ENJOY SPRING BREAK! There will be no classes at either building during this time and we will see you back the week of April 13!

Channahon Park District Special Recreation Sensory Open Gym for March 30 will be cancelled as well. We look forward to seeing families back for Sensory Open Gym on April 13th & 27th!
