Official Statement Regarding “
“White Pride” Stickers in Downtown Roxboro
A few days ago, members of our community brought attention to several stickers placed on utility poles in downtown Roxboro, directly across from the courthouse. The stickers displayed the words “White Pride” along with a symbol.
As a parent and community member, I am deeply disappointed and angry that these stickers remained in our downtown area for several days without being promptly addressed or removed by the appropriate city or county officials.
With schools now back in session, students and families are walking through our downtown community every day. Messages promoting racism, division, and hatred have no place in our community, especially in areas frequented by our children.
We are quick to mobilize when other issues arise in our community, and I believe this situation deserved that same level of urgency and attention. Regardless of who placed these stickers or what their intentions were, symbols and messages promoting racial superiority should never be normalized or ignored.
I also want to personally thank the two women Brittany Chavis & Amanda Snead who took it upon themselves last night to walk through downtown and remove the stickers from the poles. You did not have to do it, but you did, and on behalf of many in our community, I sincerely appreciate you.
This is bigger than a sticker. It is about the kind of community we want to be and the environment we want our children to grow up in. We must continue to stand together against racism, hatred, and anything that seeks to divide us.
P.S I know there will be members of our community who will be mad I spoke up about this or even said anything but right is right and wrong is wrong.
