The officers of the Chapin Police Department extend our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the Greenwood Police Department, as well as the family, friends, and loved ones affected by the heartbreaking loss of one of their officers.

There are no words that can truly ease the pain of losing a brother in blue. Behind the badge was a person who dedicated their life to serving others, protecting their community, and standing the line for those in need. During this unimaginable time of need, we stand beside the Greenwood Police Department and everyone mourning this tremendous loss.

🚨 Community Alert – Law Enforcement Activity 🚨

We are aware of a strong law enforcement presence in the area of Wessinger Road and Chapin Road.

This activity is related to the search for a missing 16-year-old out of Irmo.

If you see anything suspicious or have any information that could assist, please contact law enforcement immediately.

16 Year Old, Xavier Mikola Lynch

LAST SEEN: Xavier has been missing from the New Friarsgate area since the morning of Monday, May 4. He has been diagnosed with high-functioning autism, likes to hide in wooded areas, and was last seen on surveillance video at the Dollar General on Chapin Rd. on May 5 wearing a light colored hoodie, dark pants and white tennis shoes.

Last night at the Town of Chapin, South Carolina Town Council meeting, Officer Robert Holliday was honored as the recipient of the American Legion Public Safety Officer of the Year Award 🏆, presented by Chapin American Legion Post 193

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Post 193 for taking the time to recognize one of our own 🇺🇸 Their continued support of public safety and our community does not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for their partnership!

Officer Holliday’s commitment to the Town of Chapin is evident each day through his proactive DUI enforcement 🚔, traffic safety efforts, and drug interdiction work. His visible presence and consistent enforcement help deter unsafe driving behaviors and criminal activity, making our roads safer for everyone.

We’re sharing the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department update on a recent incident at Crooked Creek Park.

This situation reflects the close working relationship between agencies in our area. When incidents occur, our teams operate together with a shared commitment to the safety of the Chapin community.

An 18-year-old Newberry man is accused of firing shots into the air during an event Saturday evening at Crooked Creek Park in Chapin.

The charges against Najee Thompson are pointing and presenting a firearm, use of a firearm by a person under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and breach of peace, according to Lexington County investigators.

Thompson told deputies he fired the shots because he thought the park was “the country,” according to an incident report.

No one was hurt. No other shots were fired.

Thompson was arrested at the park. He being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.

Deputies encountered a minor at the park who had a gun during their investigation. He was cited and released to the custody of his parent.

Chief Griffin was thankful for the opportunity to take part in Career Day last week at Chapin Middle School!

He spoke with students about the work our officers do every day and what makes our Chapin community so special! We may have even sparked an interest in law enforcement for the future! 🤞👀🚓

To wrap things up, students who answered trivia questions correctly were awarded an official Chapin Police Department patch and challenge coin! 🛡️🪙

🚔 CHAPIN POLICE MAKE ARREST IN VEHICLE BREAK-IN CASE 🚔

Austin Gage Doolittle, of Lexington, has been arrested and charged with Breaking Into a Motor Vehicle following a thorough investigation conducted by our officers. Doolittle was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center.

Our officers worked this case diligently and were able to successfully identify and apprehend the suspect, helping bring a resolution to these incidents and improving safety within our community.

If you were in the area of Redtail Avenue near I-26 Exit 91 on Monday March 16th, and believe items may have been stolen from your vehicle, please contact the Chapin Police Department at 803-785-2521.

Additionally, we want to remind our community If You See Something, Say Something! If you observe anything suspicious, please report it to law enforcement, as we are here to serve you!

This arrest was made in partnership with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, and we are grateful for their continued assistance and strong working relationship.

🚨 CRITICAL WEATHER ALERT TORNADO WARNING 🚨

We’re sure many of you have already received the alert, but we want to remind everyone to please remain cautious and take this warning seriously.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for our area until 10:15 AM EDT.

⚠️ Take shelter immediately:
• Go to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
• Stay away from windows.
• If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the nearest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

Please continue to monitor local news and weather outlets for updates.
