Tonight, our high school fire cadets practiced using the RAM (rapid attack monitor/blitz gun) appliance. They worked with our cadet advisors to gain experience in preparing a hydrant to flow “big water”. New probie Mike Meleski was also able to get some skills checked off in his probie skills book.

Safety Tips for Grilling this Memorial Day:

-NEVER grill under eaves or in a garage.
-For propane grills, check the gas tank for leaks before use in the months ahead.
-Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
-Place the grill well away from the home, deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
-Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it.
-Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grilling area.
-If you use starter fluid when charcoal grilling, only use charcoal starter fluid. Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire. When you have or are finished grilling, let the coals cool completely before disposing in a metal container.
-Never leave your grill unattended when in use.

National EMS Week …

🚨National EMS Week is May 17-23! We are spotlighting Jim Polatsidis, a paramedic with Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Last year, Jim was a first responder for a local resident named Jane. On scene, Jim quickly identified that Jane was having a stroke and alerted Baptist Health Medical Center. This prompted the hospital’s stroke response team to prepare for Jane’s treatment well before the ambulance arrived. Jim’s quick recognition of Jane’s symptoms helped to set a record-breaking 2-minute door-to-needle time for the hospital – and Jane walked out with no deficits.

The American Heart Association recognizes Jim – and all EMS personnel – for the hard work they do every day in our communities and their commitment to help save lives. Thank you!
