TSA Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte - Marsh Road Unit Here in Charlotte, responding to pleas of a local judge and public officials, The Salvation Army was asked to open a Red Shield Club. That first Club, founded in 1934, was located on Poplar Street near uptown.

Today, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte, NC serve over 2,100 youth members at seven locations across Mecklenburg County. The Marsh Road Unit was constructed in 1991 and operates Monday-Friday from 2-7 PM, serving up to 100 members daily. The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte abide by all Boys and Girls Clubs of America standards. Our main core beliefs are that a club provides: A safe place to learn and grow... Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals... Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences... Hope and opportunity. What We Do... Partnering with The Salvation Army, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte actually have 6 core program areas -- one more than the usual 5: Education|Career Development Character|Leadership Development Sports|Fitness|Recreation The Arts Health|Lifeskills Spiritual Development (unique to The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs) We have a very simple, yet bold and defining motto at The Boys and Girls Clubs... BE GREAT. We at the Boys & Girls Clubs believe every child has the potential to BE GREAT. In support of this strong conviction, Clubs strive to build caring, responsible citizens. The Boys & Girls Club family – a community of staff, volunteers, parents, youth and supporters – work together to create a positive place, full of hope and opportunity, for every child.
